Duane Pederson
Father Duane Pederson, The Right Reverend Archimandrite (September 30 1938 - July 20 2022) was an American Eastern Orthodox priest, "Jesus freak" and former leader of the "Jesus movement". He was also the founder of Orthodox Christian Prison Ministry. Early life Father Duane was born in Hastings, Minnesota, USA and had three sisters and a brother. Jesus movement After moving to California, he was a leader in the Jesus People Movement during the 1960s and 1970s. He was also the founding editor and publisher of the Hollywood Free Paper which was a Christian response to countercultural underground newspapers. As circulation grew rapidly from California to Europe, the Paper became the most widely distributed Jesus Movement publication. It ran from 1969 to 1978. Archimandrite
The title archimandrite ( gr, ἀρχιμανδρίτης, archimandritēs), used in Eastern Christianity, originally referred to a superior abbot (''hegumenos'', gr, ἡγούμενος, present participle of the verb meaning "to lead") whom a bishop appointed to supervise several "ordinary" abbots and monasteries, or as the abbot of some especially great and important monastery. In the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Eastern Catholic Churches "archimandrite" is most often used purely as a title of honor (with no connection to any actual monastery) and is bestowed on a hieromonk as a mark of respect or gratitude for service to the Church. The Standing Conference of the Canonical Orthodox Bishops in the Americas (SCOBA) was an organization of bishops from Eastern Orthodox Christian jurisdictions in the Americas.
