Drábsko
Drábsko ( hu, Darabos) is a village and municipality in Brezno District, in the Banská Bystrica Region of central Slovakia. History Set in the highland plateau, it was founded in 1810 after an extensive forest calamity in this area. Count Forgách, the owner of the forests, brought the first group of loggers from Orava region. Soon came the shepherds, and later on the glassmakers from regions of Kysuce and Moravian Wallachia. The central village has been extended into further parts forming numerous dispersed communities called in Slovak "lazy" - e.g. Kysuca (originally called Otilia after the daughter of Count Forgách), Sedmák and others. Glass foundries in the area disappeared after World War I. Since then, the locals provided forest labour, some dedicated to not very profitable agriculture and the local crafts - manufacture of wooden shingles, weaving cloth and cloth rugs. Banská Bystrica Region
The Banská Bystrica Region ( sk, Banskobystrický kraj, ; hu, Besztercebányai kerület, ) is one of the eight regions of Slovakia. It is the largest region by area, and has a lower population density than any other region. The Banská Bystrica region was established in 1923; its borders were last adjusted in 1996. Banská Bystrica consists of 514 municipalities, 24 of which have town status. Its administrative center is the eponymous town of Banská Bystrica, which is also the region's largest town. Other important towns are Zvolen and Lučenec. Geography It is located in the central part of Slovakia and has an area of 9,455 km2. Slovak Car Registration Plates
Vehicles registered in Slovakia are generally assigned to one of the districts ('' okres'') and since 1997, the licence plate coding ( sk, EČV, evidenčné číslo vozidla) generally consists of seven characters and takes the form XX-NNNLL, where XX is a two letter code corresponding to the district, NNN is three digit number and LL are two letters (assigned alphabetically). Appearance There are three design varieties that are in valid use. * Between 1 April 1997 and 30 April 2004, the plates contained the Coat of Arms of Slovakia in the top left corner and the country code SK in the bottom left. Orava (region)
Orava is the traditional name of a region situated in northern Slovakia (as ) and partially also in southern Poland (as ). It encompasses the territory of the former (county) of Árva (or in German). The northern part of is one of the regions which are part of the Goral Lands. Etymology The name arises from the Orava river (a major river flowing through the region). History The county arose before the 15th century. The county's territory was situated along the Orava River between Zázrivá and the Tatra Mountains. Its area amounted to around 1910. Kysuce
Kysuce is a traditional informal name of a region in north-western Slovakia, situated around the Kysuca river and bordering the Orava region in the east, Poland in the north and the Czech Republic in the west. It consists of two districts: Čadca and Kysucké Nové Mesto. The northern part is called the Čadecké region and is part of the Goral Lands. The region is surrounded by the numerous mountain ranges, for example Javorníky with the highest hill Veľký Javorník (1071m) in the west, the Moravian-Silesian Beskids with the highest hill Veľký Polom (1 067m) in the north. Moravian Wallachia
Moravian Wallachia ( cs, Moravské Valašsko, or simply ''Valašsko''; ro, Valahia Moravă) is a mountainous ethnoregion located in the easternmost part of Moravia in the Czech Republic, near the Slovak border, roughly centered on the cities Vsetín, Valašské Meziříčí and Rožnov pod Radhoštěm. The name Wallachia used to be applied to all the highlands of Moravia and the neighboring Silesia, although in the 19th century a smaller area came to be defined as ethno-cultural Moravian Wallachia. Podbrezová (; hu, Zólyombrézó) is a large village and municipality in Brezno District, in the Banská Bystrica Region of central Slovakia, around 10 km west of the district seat town, Brezno. History The village is actually made of six former independent settlements, which were grouped in the 19th century around a new mill - the Hron iron works. Utekáč
Utekáč ( hu, Újantalvölgy) is a village and municipality in the Poltár District in the Banská Bystrica Region of Slovakia. In the middle of Veporské vrchy, in the narrow valley of the Rimavica river, the village Utekáč is situated. Its name is derived from the ''útek'' (meaning ''escape'') of Hungarian king Bela IV ahead of the Tatars. The first mention about Utekáč is from the year 1593. Development of Utekáč began in 1787 when earl Forgáč came to the territory. He built up a few glassworks from which just the biggest – Clara – is preserved. Aboriginal inhabitants of the glasswork's colony moved in families of glassworks experts from Germany, Hungary, Bohemia and Moravia. Modern history began on 1 January 1993 with establishment of the separate village. Utekáč was only an industrial part of the village Kokava nad Rimavicou before.
