Dreadnots GFC
Dreadnots GFC is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club that fields gaelic football teams in competitions organised by Louth GAA. It is located in the south Louth seaside village of Clogherhead. The club has a local rivalry with neighbours St Fechin's. As of 2023, the club competes in the Louth Senior Championship and Division 1 of the county football Leagues. History The club was founded in 1887, making it one of the oldest active GAA clubs in County Louth. In 1889, Dreadnots reached the final of the Louth Senior Football Championship, losing to Newtown Blues by 1–02 to 0–03. The 2002 arrival of former Louth inter-county star Colin Kelly from Newtown Blues helped propel Dreadnots to two Louth Intermediate Football Championship titles in 2004 and 2008. Clogherhead
Clogherhead () is a fishing village in County Louth, Ireland. Located in a natural bay on the east coast it is bordered by the villages of Annagassan to the north and Termonfeckin to the south. It has a population of 2,145 according to the 2016 census. It is located in the townlands of Clogher and Callystown, about northeast of Drogheda. As a seaside village, its main industries are fishing and farming, and there has been an RNLI lifeboat stationed in the village for over 100 years. Name Historically, the village was known simply as Clogher (''Clochair'') or Killclogher (''Cill Chlochair'') while the headland was called Clogher Head. Today the headland remains Clogher Head, the village is called Clogherhead and the townland they are in is called Clogher. Drogheda ( , ; , meaning "bridge at the ford") is an industrial and port town in County Louth on the east coast of Ireland, north of Dublin. Louth Under-21 Football Championship
The Louth Under-21 Football Championship is an annual competition organised by Louth GAA for Gaelic football teams in County Louth. History First contested in 1972, the inaugural winners were Cooley Kickhams. As is the case nationally, amalgamated parish teams are a regular feature of the competition due to lack of numbers. The county board removed the competition from the calendar in the mid-1980s but it returned in 1991. The competition has on occasion been run as an under-20 tournament, in line with changes introduced by the GAA in 2018. It has since reverted to the U-21 format. Louth Junior 2B Football Championship
The Louth Junior 2B Football Championship is an annual knockout gaelic football competition organised by Louth GAA, contested by the second teams of Intermediate and Junior clubs in County Louth. Prior to 1994, the Louth Junior 2A Championship was the only knockout competition for clubs' second teams. That year, the County Board introduced a second knockout competition, confined to the Intermediate and Junior clubs, which would be known as the 2B Championship. The captain of the winning team is presented with the Cairnes Cup. Format A Final to determine the winner was held annually until 2015, when the format changed. At the end of the league programme, the team with the most points is now awarded the trophy. If two or more teams finish level on points at the top of the table, a play-off will decide the winner. The team that finishes bottom of the league is relegated to Division 5. Trophy The Ranafast Cup was presented to each winning team from 1944 until 1999. Cardinal O'Donnell Cup
The Cardinal O'Donnell Cup is an annual senior league competition organised by Louth GAA for the Division 1 teams in Gaelic football in County Louth. Format All 12 teams play each other once, with the top four traditionally qualifying for the semi-final stage. The semi-final victors then face off in the final of the competition. There is also relegation to Division 2 for the worst-performing team(s). Trophy The winning team is presented with the Cardinal O'Donnell Cup, named after Patrick O'Donnell, who was Catholic Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland from 1924 until his death in October 1927.
