Dr. Frank J. Hayden Secondary School, is located in the northern area of Burlington, Ontario, Canada, at 3040 Tim Dobbie Drive. It is an English school in the Halton District School Board that serves approximately 1600 grade 9-12 students. In its first year, Dr. Frank J. Hayden Secondary School served approximately 600 students in grades 9–10. The school is named for Special Olympics pioneer Frank Hayden. Co-curricular programs Dr. Frank J. Hayden has a wide variety of co-curricular programs, not called extracurriculars as that supports the notion that participating in clubs and teams is extra work, which is an idea that Hayden would like to discourage. Frank Joseph Hayden, is a retired physical education/kinesiology professor and pioneer of the Special Olympics from Oakville, Ontario. Personal life Hayden was born in Windsor, Ontario and lives in Burlington. He completed his Bachelor of Arts (BA) at the University of Western Ontario in 1955, and a Master of Science (MS) in 1958 and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in 1962 at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. Hayden joined the faculty of the University of Western Ontario in 1964, then became director of the School of Physical Education and Athletics at McMaster University in 1975.
