Dou3le
''Dou3le'' is the second and final studio album by Swiss musical duo Double, released in 1987 by Metronome. Despite including the acclaimed single " Devils Ball", it failed to emulate the success of its predecessor ''Blue''. Background and release Having finished extensive promotion for their previous album, ''Blue'', and the commercially successful single " The Captain of Her Heart", Double soon returned to the studio to record their next album ''Dou3le''. It was recorded between February and June 1987 at Powerplay Studios in Maur, Switzerland, at Britannia Row Studios in London and at A&M Studios in Los Angeles. As soon as recording sessions started, the duo faced musical differences over the direction of Double's sound. Kurt Maloo wanted to continue producing pop songs similar to their debut album, whereas Felix Haug wanted to try more experimental ideas. "Devils Ball" is a song by the Swiss duo Double, released in 1987 as the lead single from their second studio album ''Dou3le''. It was written and produced by Kurt Maloo and Felix Haug. The song featured a guest appearance from Herb Alpert, who played trumpet on the track, and an electric violin solo by Michał Urbaniak. Double (band)
Double was a Swiss music duo best known for their hit single " The Captain of Her Heart". Biography The duo was formed in 1983 in Zürich, Switzerland, by Felix Haug (drums and keyboards) and Kurt Maloo (guitar and vocals) out of the trio Ping Pong of which both Maloo and Haug were members. Ping Pong formed in 1981, and had some early success with a single entitled "Rhythm Walk". They also recorded with Phil Manzanera of Roxy Music, though due to legal issues none of their collaborations were able to be released. Ping Pong had some success with singles and several appearances around Europe in music festivals. Prior to releasing their debut album, the duo issued a few singles, of which "Naningo", "Rangoon Moon", and "Woman of the World" were the most popular. Kurt Maloo (born Kurt Meier, April 16, 1953, in Zurich, Switzerland) is a Swiss singer-songwriter, composer, and record producer. He first achieved international success in 1986, as the singer and front man of the group Double (band), Double with the hit single, "The Captain of Her Heart". Biography Kurt Meier was born in Zurich, Switzerland, as the only child of Arnold and Babette Meier. His father's family emigrated to France when Arnold was four years old. During World War II, his father returned to Switzerland, where he met Babette, a daughter of a locomotive driver, and married her. Her family was very musical; each played an instrument and performed at house concerts. When Meier was born, Babette used to play the mandolin and sing and dance for him, and later, when he started to play the guitar, jammed along with her. Pete Glenister is an English guitarist, songwriter and producer, known for his work with Alison Moyet and Kirsty MacColl. He has also worked with a number of other artists including Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Bruce Foxton, Terence Trent D'Arby, Bros, E. G. Daily, Mary Coughlan, Geoffrey Williams, Five Thirty, Bryan Ferry and Raphael Gualazzi. Background Glenister was the guitarist in the new wave band The Hitmen, who produced two albums, ''Aim for the Feet'' (1980) and ''Torn Together'' (1981). Mike Pela
Mike Pela (13 January 1950 – 23 July 2022) was a British record producer and mixer. He worked with various artists including Sade, Maxwell, Savage Garden and others, spanning a wide array of genres. Career Pela started his career in the 1970s working at the CTS / De Lane Lea recording complex in London. He worked on many projects during this time including The Who's ''Tommy'' and the Electric Light Orchestra's ''Eldorado''. He then went into a freelance role where he worked with artists such as Alice Cooper, Stephen Stills, Hawkwind, Nico, and Pete Townshend. In the 1980s he worked out of Robin Millar's Power Plant studios, where he was able to participate in music projects featuring artists such as Boy George, Fine Young Cannibals, Everything but the Girl, Tom Robinson, The Style Council, Gang of Four and Sade. Maxine Brown (soul Singer)
Maxine Ella Brown (born August 18, 1939) is an American soul and R&B singer. Background and career Maxine Brown began singing as a child, performing with two New York City based gospel groups called the Angelairs and the Royaltones when she was a teenager. In 1960, she signed with the small Nomar record label, who released the deep soul ballad "All in My Mind" (which was written by Brown) late in the year. The single became a hit, climbing to number two on the US ''Billboard'' R&B chart (number 19 pop), and it was quickly followed by "Funny",Larkin C, ''Virgin Encyclopedia of Sixties Music'', (Muze UK Ltd, 1997), p. 79 which peaked at number three. Beverlei Brown
Beverlei Brown is a British R&B and soul singer. Brown gleaned her singing skills from her mother, who sang in her church's choir in Birmingham, England. When she was old enough, Brown sang with the choir and eventually became the leader. She performed a solo with the Clark Sisters at the gospel wailers' UK concert and caught a sweet break with the Fine Young Cannibals, who needed some gospel singers for an album project; with Brown on board, the sessions were good enough to land FYC a record deal and Brown a gig on their worldwide promotional tour. She returned to Birmingham after the expedition, finished school, and worked as a receptionist for a law office before accepting a touring gig with Ruby Turner that lasted two years. Her reputation grew quickly and Brown found work with Simply Red, Snap!, Joe Cocker, the Brand New Heavies, Babyface, Chaka Khan, and others.
