Dongji Island
Dongji Island / Dongji Islet / Tungchi Island () is an island in Dongji Village (), Wangan Township, Penghu County (the Pescadores), Taiwan. Dongji Island has also been known as ''Nandongyu'' (). The island is the site of the Dongji Island Lighthouse (Dongji Lighthouse). History A temple for Wang Ye worship on the island was built during the Jiaqing era and restored in 1872. Dongji Island Lighthouse was built in 1911 during the period of Japanese rule of Taiwan. In June 2012, fisherman Wang Chiu-tang (王秋堂) discovered a fossilized ivory tusk in a trench near the island below sea level. In June 2014, Dongji Island was made part of the new South Penghu Marine National Park. In May 2016, a ferry service between Tainan and Dongji Island had its maiden voyage. Wangan, Penghu
Wangan Township / Wang-an Township () is a Township (Taiwan), rural township in Penghu County (the Pescadores), Taiwan. It is the second smallest township in Penghu County after Cimei, Penghu, Cimei Township. The township is made up of nineteen islands, six of which are inhabited. Name The main island is Wangan Island, originally known as Bazhao / Pa Chao (). Geography The township is located in the southern sea of Penghu. Humid Subtropical Climate
A humid subtropical climate is a zone of climate characterized by hot and humid summers, and cool to mild winters. These climates normally lie on the southeast side of all continents (except Antarctica), generally between latitudes 25° and 40° and are located poleward from adjacent tropical climates. It is also known as warm temperate climate in some climate classifications. Tropical climate is the first of the five major climate groups in the Köppen climate classification identified with the letter A. Taijiang National Park
Taijiang National Park () is a national park in Tainan, Taiwan. History Taijiang National Park was established in October 15, 2009. Geology The majority of the park is within the city of Tainan. In total, the park's planned area stretches from the southern sea wall of Qingshan Fishing Harbor to the south bank of the Yanshui River and is mostly public coastal land. The westernmost point on the island of Taiwan, Guosheng Port Lighthouse, is within the boundaries of the park which measures north to south and has an area of , of which land accounts for . ''Taiwan News'' (formerly ''China News'') is an English-language online newspaper in Taiwan. It is owned by foods company I-Mei Foods, which also publishes the Chinese-language news weekly of the same name. History ''China News'' was founded on 6 June 1949 in Taipei by James Wei, a journalist with close ties to the KMT and former employee of the Ministry of Information. The newspaper was established to cater for foreign residents and the local population in Taiwan. At the time it was the only English-language daily newspaper in Taiwan and it was a newspaper published in the afternoon. Hsiung Feng III Missile Mishap
On 1 July 2016, a Hsiung Feng III missile was accidentally launched from a Republic of China Navy vessel from waters off Kaohsiung towards Penghu. The missile hit a fishing boat at 8:40 a.m., killing one person and injuring three. Chronology The Chin Chiang PGG-610 () patrol ship was undergoing a regular simulation training exercise for military equipment on the morning of 1 July (Friday) at Zuoying Naval Base in Zuoying District, Kaohsiung. The missile was accidentally launched at 8:00 a.m. during an inspection at the navy base. The missile cruised around for two minutes towards mainland China before hitting a Taiwanese fishing boat. The missile did not explode upon impact. The navy sent a helicopter and navy vessels to the area for damage inspection. South Penghu Marine National Park
South Penghu Marine National Park () is a national park of Taiwan in the south of Penghu Islands. The marine park includes the islands of Dongjiyu, Xijiyu, Dongyupingyu, Xiyupingyu, other smaller islets and surrounding waters. It is managed by the Marine National Park Headquarters. History There were once thousands of people living on the islands. Because the area has little transportation and few jobs, the population has decreased, and there are now only about 50 people. In 2008, cold weather in Penghu killed a lot of marine life. The southern part of Penghu was less affected because it is at a lower latitude and was warmer.
