Dolomitenmann
The Dolomitenmann is an extreme sports relay race held in September in the East Tyrolean, or so-called Dolomite Mountains of Austria, near the city of Lienz. The founder and organiser is Werner Grissmann, a former World Cup skier. The Dolomitenmann relay race has been run annually since 1988. In recent years the race has been sponsored by the manufacturers of Red Bull energy drink and is now known as ''Red Bull Dolomitenmann''. The race is billed by its organizers as "the world's toughest team relay race". The competition is only open to male athletes. Race organizer Werner Grissmann justifies this with the statement that he wishes to protect women, since the competition is only meant for the "hardest athletes", he does not want "to see women suffer" and that it would be "incompatible with their aesthetics". Lienz
Lienz (; Southern Bavarian: ''Lianz'') is a Town privileges, medieval town in the Austrian state of Tyrol (state), Tyrol. It is the administrative centre of the Lienz (district), Lienz district, which covers all of East Tyrol. The municipality also includes the Katastralgemeinden, cadastral subdivision of ''Patriasdorf''. Geography Lienz is located at the confluence of the rivers Isel River, Isel and Drava in the Eastern Alps, between the Hohe Tauern mountain range in the north (including the Schober group, Schober and Kreuzeck groups), and the Southern Limestone Alps, Gailtal Alps in the south. Jonathan Wyatt
Jonathan Craig Wyatt (born 20 December 1972) is a New Zealand runner. He is a six-time world mountain running champion and an eight-time winner of the world mountain running grand prix series. Running career Wyatt competed in the men's 5,000 metres at the 1994 Commonwealth Games, reaching the final, and finished sixth in the men's marathon race at the 2002 Commonwealth Games. He is a two-time Olympian, competing at the 1996 Summer Olympics in the 5,000 metres and at the 2004 Summer Olympics in the marathon. He holds the New Zealand national record in the 5K at 13:46, and is the former national record holder for the 10K and half marathon. Wyatt is a five-time winner of the Red Bull Dolomitenmann race. Isel (river)
The Isel () is a glacier-fed river in East Tyrol, Austria. The river flow varies with daily and seasonal temperature changes, and the riverbed is constantly shifting, creating a unique environment. The river's course runs along a geological fault running from NW to SE. It held a glacier during the last ice age, which has left boulders and gravel along the valley. There have been various proposals to dam and divert the water for use in generating hydroelectricity which have been opposed by environmentalists. Since 2015 the river has been designated a Natura 2000 site, which offers some protection. There is a hiking trail along the river, and it is known for excellent whitewater rafting conditions.
