Dokk1
Dokk1 or Dokken is a government building, public library and culture center in Aarhus, Denmark. It is situated on '' Hack Kampmanns Plads'' in the city center by the waterfront next to the Custom House. Dokk1 is part of the much larger development project Urban Mediaspace Aarhus, jointly financed by Aarhus Municipality and Realdania for 2.1 billion DKK. It is designed by Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects and Kristine Jensen, with construction managed by NCC AB. Construction broke ground 8 June 2011 and the building was inaugurated four years later on 20 June 2015. The name of the building was determined by a public contest held in the autumn of 2012. The combination of letters and number can be pronounced as "Dokken", "Dok-Ét" or "Dok-Een", meaning The Dock or Dock One in English. The term references the location on the former industrial harbor by the waterfront. Aarhus
Aarhus (, , ; officially spelled Århus from 1948 until 1 January 2011) is the second-largest city in Denmark and the seat of Aarhus Municipality. Magnesium oxide, more commonly called magnesia, is a versatile mineral that when used as part of a cement mixture and cast into thin cement panels under proper curing procedures and practices can be used in residential and commercial building construction. Aarhus Letbane
The Aarhus Letbane (Aarhus light rail) is a light rail system in the city of Aarhus, Denmark. It is operated by the company Midttrafik. The first line opened in December 2017, but the system is under continuous development and expansion. Service on the intercity section Odder to Lisbjergskolen opened on August 25, 2018. A third intercity line to Grenå opened on 30 April 2019. More lines are being planned. On 8 May 2012, the Danish Parliament approved the construction of the first line; work to build Phase 1 commenced during September 2013. It was originally planned to open in August 2016, but this was delayed, in part due to legislative issues in relation to railway safety. Elmgreen & Dragset
Michael Elmgreen (born 1961; Copenhagen, Denmark) and Ingar Dragset (born 1969; Trondheim, Norway) have worked together as an artist duo since 1995. Their work explores the relationship between art, architecture and design. Elmgreen & Dragset live and work in Berlin. They are known for art work that has wit and subversive humour, and also addresses social and cultural concerns. Kristine Jensen
Kristine Jensen (born 1956), is a Danish architect who has specialized in landscape architecture. Biography Jensen was born in Herning where her father was an architect. When she was 19 she went to Aarhus to study landscape architecture at the Aarhus School of Architecture, graduating in 1983. After a short period working for C. F. Møller Architects, she returned to the architecture school to undertake research leading to a PhD in 1996. From 1996, she taught at the school until in 2002 she founded her own firm, Arkitekt Kristine Jensens Tegnestue. In 2005, she won a competition for landscaping the historic surroundings of Moesgård Museum just outside Aarhus, an assignment completed in collaboration with the museum's director Jan Skamby Madsen. Works of particular note include her urban revival of the Prags Boulevard in the Amagerbro district of Copenhagen (2006). Kirstine Roepstorff
Kirstine Roepstorff (born 1972) is a Danish visual artist who lives and works in Fredericia (DK). Roepstorff studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen from 1994-2001 and Rutgers University, Mason School of Fine Art (MFA), USA (2000). LED Light
An LED lamp or LED light bulb is an electric light that produces light using light-emitting diodes (LEDs). LED lamps are significantly more energy-efficient than equivalent incandescent lamps and can be significantly more efficient than most fluorescent lamps. The most efficient commercially available LED lamps have efficiencies of 200 lumen per watt (Lm/W). Commercial LED lamps have a lifespan many times longer than incandescent lamps. LED lamps require an electronic LED driver circuit to operate from mains power lines, and losses from this circuit means that the efficiency of the lamp is lower than the efficiency of the LED chips it uses. The driver circuit may require special features to be compatible with lamp dimmers intended for use on incandescent lamps.
