''Doctrine'' is the sixth studio album by Dutch death metal band Pestilence, which was released on April 24, 2011. Pestilence (band)
Pestilence is a Dutch death metal band from Enschede, founded in 1986. There have been numerous lineup changes with the band over their -year career, with guitarist and vocalist Patrick Mameli as the only constant member. After disbanding in order to pursue other musical directions in 1994, Pestilence reunited in 2008, and was put on a "permanent hold" in July 2014. However, the band reunited once again in October 2016. To date, Pestilence has released nine studio albums, and they are often known as part of "progressive death metal's Big Four", along with Death, Atheist, and Cynic. History Early career (1986–1990) Pestilence started in the Netherlands in mid-1986 as a thrash metal band. The lineup, consisting of Patrick Mameli (guitar, vocals), Randy Meinhard (guitar), and Marco Foddis (drums), recorded two demos before gaining the attention of Roadrunner Records. ''Resurrection Macabre'' is the fifth studio album by Dutch death metal band Pestilence, which was released on 16 March 2009. It is the band's first album of original material in 16 years, since 1993's ''Spheres'' and this fact is referenced in the album's title; hence ''resurrection''. Re-recordings of earlier Pestilence songs make appearances as bonus tracks on the record. Background Pestilence were broken up between 1994 and early 2008. ''Obsideo'' is the seventh studio album by Dutch death metal band Pestilence. It was released on October 21, 2013 via Candlelight Records. The album was produced by the vocalist/guitarist Patrick Mameli, and their last before their two-year hiatus from 2014 to 2016. According to Mameli, the album's overall lyrical theme is "the journey of the human soul." Spheres (Pestilence Album)
''Spheres'' is the fourth album by Dutch death metal band Pestilence, released in 1993. It was their final album before a 14-year hiatus from 1994 to 2008. On this album, the band experimented with a more progressive sound, utilizing guitar synthesizers as well as some jazz influences. ''Decibel'' rated it positively, appreciating the "ear-candy at every turn" and the superb basswork. However, the quality of the drums work by Marco Foddis was criticised as unsuited to the range of styles present in the album. In the hiatus before 2008 Mameli started to criticise his own album. Guitar Tunings
Guitar tunings are the assignment of pitches to the open strings of guitars, including acoustic guitars, electric guitars, and classical guitars. Tunings are described by the particular pitches that are made by notes in Western music. Patrizio Marco Giovanni "Patrick" Mameli (born 23 November 1966) is a Dutch death metal singer and guitarist who is best known for his work with technical death metal band Pestilence. Mameli is founder and member of Pestilence since their formation in 1986. After eight years and four albums, the band called it quits in 1994, but reunited in 2008, and released three more albums before going on hiatus from 2014 to 2016. Jeroen Paul Thesseling (born 13 April 1971) is a Dutch fretless bass player, most famous for his work in the German progressive death metal band Obscura and the Dutch progressive death metal band Pestilence. Biography ;Early life Jeroen started studying violin and followed his first lessons at the age of 7. During his youth he played with classical orchestras, ensembles and attended several classical music contests. The bass guitar, electric bass or simply bass (), is the lowest-pitched member of the string family.
