Resurrection Macabre
''Resurrection Macabre'' is the fifth studio album by Dutch death metal band Pestilence, which was released on 16 March 2009. It is the band's first album of original material in 16 years, since 1993's ''Spheres'' and this fact is referenced in the album's title; hence ''resurrection''. Re-recordings of earlier Pestilence songs make appearances as bonus tracks on the record. Background Pestilence were broken up between 1994 and early 2008. In January 2008, frontman Patrick Mameli revealed to Blabbermouth.net that the band was planning on making a return because "people/fans keep asking me for this. The time is right now and Mascot is giving me the opportunity to do so. As you know, I have always been the driving force behind Pestilence, writing all the music and so forth, so that I can state: I will bring back Pestilence to life. More tech and way more brutal than ever before." In October 2008, Mameli revealed to UK's ''Terrorizer'' magazine that Pestilence would enter a studi ... Bass Guitar
The bass guitar, electric bass or simply bass (), is the lowest-pitched member of the string family. It is a plucked string instrument similar in appearance and construction to an electric or an acoustic guitar, but with a longer neck and scale length, and typically four to six strings or courses. Since the mid-1950s, the bass guitar has largely replaced the double bass in popular music. The four-string bass is usually tuned the same as the double bass, which corresponds to pitches one octave lower than the four lowest-pitched strings of a guitar (typically E, A, D, and G). It is played primarily with the fingers or thumb, or with a pick. To be heard at normal performance volumes, electric basses require external amplification. Terminology According to the ''New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians'', an "Electric bass guitar sa Guitar, usually with four heavy strings tuned E1'–A1'–D2–G2." Testimony Of The Ancients
''Testimony of the Ancients'' is the third album by the Dutch death metal band Pestilence, released in 1991 on Roadrunner Records. This was their first release with a new lineup, with Tony Choy replacing Martin van Drunen on bass, while guitarist Patrick Mameli filled in for the latter on vocals. Overview Following the departure of former bassist/vocalist Martin van Drunen, guitarist Patrick Mameli took over vocal duties. Mameli steered the band towards a more melodic and technical approach, expanding on the death metal sound of its predecessor ''Consuming Impulse''. The resulting concept album, ''Testimony of the Ancients'' contrasted brutal death metal riffs with melodic interludes and tackled what John Serba describes as, "strangely philosophical, and oddly compelling, subject matter". After each song on the album, there was an instrumental outro track. This attempt to push the boundaries of death metal, at a time when the scene was saturated with copycat "one track minded" b ... Consuming Impulse
''Consuming Impulse'' (stylized as ''Consvming Impvlse'') is the second album by Dutch death metal band Pestilence, released in 1989. While retaining some of the thrash metal elements from its predecessor ''Malleus Maleficarum'' (1988), ''Consuming Impulse'' saw the band progress further towards the traditional death metal genre with progressive influences; this can be seen as one of the earliest examples of technical death metal, a subgenre that would be used and expanded on Pestilence's subsequent albums. ''Consuming Impulse'' was also their first release with then-new guitarist Patrick Uterwijk, and their last one to feature bassist and vocalist Martin van Drunen. It was reissued along with ''Testimony of the Ancients'' on Roadrunner Records' Two from the Vault series. ''Decibel'' gave positive reviews to it as a cult classic. Sepultura, Morgoth, Entombed, Morbid Angel, At the Gates, Coroner, Dismember, Sinister, Death...it was a veritable smorgasbord of brutality.""The Age of Extremity", ''Terrorizer #100''.
