Doclisboa is a documentary film festival in Lisbon, Portugal Portugal, officially the Portuguese Republic ( pt, República Portuguesa, links=yes ), is a country whose mainland is located on the Iberian Peninsula of Southwestern Europe, and whose territory also includes the Atlantic archipelagos of ... which held its first edition in 2002. In 2020, Doclisboa was organized into six moments of programme across six months, in order to deal with the pandemic restrictions while presenting its physical screenings in Lisbon's main venues. In 2021, the festival returned to its original, with a 11-day live format. The 19th edition took place between 21 an 31 October, with its original sections, featuring a total of 249 films. The winner of Best Film Award (International Competition) was 918 Nights, by Spanish director Arantza Santesteban. Wang Bing (director)
Wang Bing (; born 1967) is a Chinese director, often referred to as one of the foremost figures in documentary film-making. Wang is the founder of his own production company, Wang Bing Studios, which produces most of his films. His movie on Chinese labour camps, ''The Ditch'', was included in the 2010 Venice Film Festival as the ''film sorpresa''. Recognition '' Tie Xi Qu'', Wang's 9 hour epic documentary of industrial China, was considered a major success. Documentary Film Festival
Documentary film festivals are film festivals devoted solely to documentary film, which is a broad category of visual expression that is based on the attempt, in one fashion or another, to "document" reality. Although "documentary film" originally referred to movies shot on film stock, it has subsequently expanded to include video and digital productions that can be either direct-to-video or made for a television series. Documentary, as it applies here, works to identify a "filmmaking practice, a cinematic tradition, and mode of audience reception" that is continually evolving and is without clear boundaries. Doc Alliance
The Doc Alliance is a creative partnership of seven European documentary film festivals, including: CPH:DOX in Copenhagen; Doclisboa; Docs Against Gravity FF; DOK Leipzig; Marseille Festival of Documentary Film; Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival; and Visions du Réel Nyon. The organisation is based in Prague and was founded in 2008, with the aim of promoting the documentary genre. It is financially supported by the European Union's Creative Europe programme, Czech Filmfund and the Czech Ministry of Culture. Its slogan is "the New Deal for Feature Documentaries". Gianfranco Rosi (; born 30 November 1963) is an Italian-American documentary filmmaker. His 2013 film ''Sacro GRA'' won the Golden Lion at the 70th Venice Film Festival, while his 2016 film ''Fire at Sea'' won the Golden Bear at the 66th Berlin Film Festival.
