Dixie State Trailblazers Women's Basketball
The Utah Tech Trailblazers women's basketball team represents Utah Tech University known as Dixie State) in St. George, Utah. Starting in 2020–21 season, the Trailblazers play in Division I and are members of the Western Athletic Conference. Previously, the school's team participated in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, at the Division II level of the NCAA. The team announced January 5, 2021, that they would suspend their 2020–2021 season indefinitely, in wake of continued cancellations due to COVID-19. The Trailblazers are currently led by head coach J. D. Gustin, starting his fifth year. The team plays its games at the Burns Arena on its campus in St. George. In 2022, the university changed their name from Dixie State University, to Utah Tech University. While the legal change doesn't occur until July 1, 2022, the school has already began using Utah Tech branding in all sites, materials, recruiting etc. The "Trailblazers" nickname will not be affected. Utah Tech University
Utah Tech University (UT), formerly known as Dixie State University (DSU) and similar names, is a public university in St. George, Utah. The university offers about 240 programs (4 master's degrees, 53 bachelor's degrees, 18 associate degrees, 45 minors, 52 certificates/endorsements, and 70 emphases). As of fall 2022, there are 12,556 students enrolled at UT. The student body is 57% female and 42% male with 21% of the student body being minority (non-white) students. The institution began as St. George Stake Academy, founded in 1911 by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). The Pacific West Conference (also known as the PacWest) is a college athletic conference affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division II level. Western Athletic Conference
The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) is an NCAA Division I conference. The WAC covers a broad expanse of the western United States with member institutions located in Arizona, California, New Mexico, Utah, Washington (state), Washington, and Texas. NCAA Division II (D-II) is an intermediate-level division of competition in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). It offers an alternative to both the larger and better-funded Division I and to the scholarship-free environment offered in Division III. NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament
The NCAA Division II women's basketball tournament (officially styled as "Championship" instead of "Tournament") is an annual tournament to determine the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) NCAA Division II, Division II women's college basketball national champion. Basketball was one of 12 women's sports added to the NCAA championship program for the 1981–82 school year, as the NCAA and Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) sought for sole governance of women's collegiate athletics. The AIAW continued to conduct its established championships; however, after a year of dual women's championships at the national level, the AIAW disbanded.
