Graz
Graz (; sl, Gradec) is the capital city of the Austrian state of Styria and second-largest city in Austria after Vienna. As of 1 January 2021, it had a population of 331,562 (294,236 of whom had principal-residence status). In 2018, the population of the Graz larger urban zone (LUZ) stood at 652,654, based on principal-residence status. Graz is known as a college and university city, with four colleges and four universities. Combined, the city is home to more than 60,000 students. Its historic centre ('' Altstadt'') is one of the best-preserved city centres in Central Europe. In 1999, the city's historic centre was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites and in 2010 the designation was expanded to include Eggenberg Palace (german: Schloss Eggenberg) on the western edge of the city. Waltendorf
Waltendorf ( is the 9th district of the Austrian city of Graz. It borders the districts of Ries to the north, St. Peter to the south and St. Leonhard Leonard of Noblac (also Leonard of Limoges or Leonard of Noblet; also known as Lienard, Linhart, Leonhard, Léonard, Leonardo, Annard; died 559), is a Frankish saint closely associated with the town and abbey of Saint-Léonard-de-Noblat, in Hau ... mostly to the west. It had a population of 11,619 in 2010 and covers an area of 4.48 square kilometres. The postal codes of Waltendorf are 8010, 8042, 8043, 8047. There are two small castles in the district the 'Schloss Lustbühel' and the 'Hallerschloss', as well as a church the 'Rupertikirche' in 'Hohenrain'. Within the north of the district, next to the Ragnitz brook, there is one of the largest collection of high-risers in Graz, called 'Berliner Ring'. Straßgang
Straßgang (from Slavic ''straža'' "look-out, watchtower") is the 16th city district of Graz, in the Austrian province of Styria. It is located in the south-west of Graz at the bottom of the hills Buchkogel and Florianiberg. History The locality Straßgang is situated along an old traffic route that is used since the Roman times. The village Straßgang together with the village Puntigam became the 16th city district of Graz in 1938. In 1988 Puntigam became the new 17th city district of Graz. Eggenberg (Graz)
Eggenberg is the 14th city district of Graz in the Austrian province of Styria. It borders to the districts of Lend and Gries in the east and to the Plabutsch mountain in the west. The name originates from the Eggenberg palace and its founding family the House of Eggenberg. History The district is named after the Eggenbergers who built their medieval residence sometime after 1460 and which was expanded starting in 1625 to become Eggenberg palace. In 2010 the palace was added to the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site listing for Graz's "Old Town". Early discoveries indicate a settlement since the early stoneage. In Algersdorf two grave fields from the Roman age were found. The Alte Poststraße can be traced back to the Roman age as well. Gösting
Gösting (; from Slavic ''gostinca'' = hostel, or ''gozd'' = mountain forest) is the 13th city district of Graz, in the Austrian province of Styria. It is situated in the north-west of the city between the river Mur and the Plabutsch mountain and the range north of it on which the ruined Gösting Castle is located. History Before the year 1138 the village and the castle were founded by the Aribon Swiker von Gösting. About 1430 the village contained 33 farms and several craftsmen among which were two millers in the still today called miller's quarter (''Müllerviertel'') and am Thalbach stream. In 1707 the castle and the fiefdom (''Herrschaft'') were bought by the Counts of Attems. In the 18th century the castle fell more and more into disrepair after a fire caused by a lightning strike in 1723 destroyed it almost completely. Andritz ( sl, Jendrica – "fast-flowing water") is the 12th district of Graz. It is located in the extreme north of the city. It had a population of 18,339 in 2011 and covers an area of 18.47 square kilometres. The postal codes of Andritz are 8010, 8042-8046 and 8054. History The name Andritz was first mentioned in 1265. Andritz's most important industry, the technology company Andritz AG, was established by Josef Körösi in 1852.
