Disability golf classification is used for deaf golf, blind golf, amputee golf, golf for the mentally disabled, paraplegic golf and other forms of golf involving people with disabilities. International Blind Golf Association
International Blind Golf Association (IBGA) ( in Japanese) was established in 1998 as a disabled sports entity to organize, acknowledge and support international blind golf (visually impaired and blind golf) tournaments. As of 2014, it has around 500 registered golfers. History In 1996, Haruhisa Handa who was the founder of Japanese Blind Golf Association appealed to blind golf associations around the world to set up a governing organization. In 1997, the World Blind Golfers Conference was held in Perth, Australia, where representatives from six countries participated to propose the articles of association and handicap system. In 1998, the proposal was resolved at a meeting held during the 5th Blind Golf World Championship in Florida, US, so that a global governing organization could be established. Visual impairment, also known as vision impairment, is a medical definition primarily measured based on an individual's better eye visual acuity; in the absence of treatment such as correctable eyewear, assistive devices, and medical treatment– visual impairment may cause the individual difficulties with normal daily tasks including reading and walking. Biography Zohar Sharon lost his sight in a chemical accident while serving in the Israel Defense Forces. Following the accident, Sharon began art therapy. He went on to study painting at the prestigious Avni Institute of Art in Tel Aviv and produced work of impressive quality. Graham Salmon
Graham Henry Salmon, MBE (September 5, 1954 – October 1999) was a blind British athlete. He set the world record for 100m by a blind man at the 1984 Summer Paralympics and won a bronze medal in the B1 400 metres. He competed at both the Summer Paralympic Games and the Winter Paralympic Games. Early life Diagnosed with a tumour in his right eye at the age of three days, Salmon had to have an operation to remove it. When an identical tumour was discovered in his left eye some weeks later, he underwent radiotherapy to have it repaired. The eye didn't stand up to the treatment, and he was left completely blind. Salmon was educated at Linden Lodge School where he gained O levels in History and English Language and Literature. He subsequently attended Worcester College. In golf, a hole in one or hole-in-one (also known as an ace, mostly in American English) occurs when a ball hit from a tee to start a hole finishes in the cup.
