Direct Hit Records was a record label and store based in Dallas, Texas. The record label is notable for releasing early recordings by North Texas musicians who would eventually go on to prominence at a national level ( Darlington (singer) (as the band MESS), Bedhead, Baboon, Brutal Juice, UFOFU, Slowpoke, the Grown-Ups, and Dooms UK). The label went on to release recordings by out-of-Texas artists, including Secession Movement, Malachai and Michael W. Dean, between 1998 and 1999. The label operated in Dallas's Exposition Park from 1989 to 1995. Christy Brigitte Darlington, commonly known by his stage name of Darlington, is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, published author and visual artist. He has performed multiple American and European concert tours, and has had music played on hundreds of radio stations across North America and Europe, as well as featured in television shows on MTV. Bedhead (band)
Bedhead was an American indie rock band, active from 1991 to 1998, based in Dallas, Texas. Members consisted of Matt and Bubba Kadane (vocals and guitar), Tench Coxe (guitar), Kris Wheat (bass), and Trini Martinez (drums). The band released several EPs and three LPs on Trance Syndicate, touring intermittently. Bedhead's music was generally subdued, with three electric guitars and one electric bass guitar over sung or spoken vocals. Allmusic dubbed the group "the quintessential indie rock band," and ''Tiny Mix Tapes'' gave their final album '' Transaction de Novo'' a perfect 5/5 score. Brutal Juice
Brutal Juice is a self-proclaimed " acid punk" (LSD-influenced hardcore punk and progressive rock) band from Denton, Texas. The band formed in 1990 and officially disbanded in February 1997, although they held several reunion concerts between 1999 and 2012, which usually took place at Fry Street Fair in Denton. They officially reformed in 2012 and released their latest album, titled "''Welcome to the Panopticon,''" on October 28, 2016. UFOFU
UFOFU was a Rock music, rock band (music), band based in Dallas, Texas. The band consisted of Joseph Butcher (musician), Joseph Butcher, and brothers Brandon Curtis and Benjamin Curtis (musician), Ben Curtis. It rose to local prominence in the mid-1990s through word of mouth and slots opening for other north Texas bands such as Hagfish and Tripping Daisy. While touring, the band opened for Local H, Smoking Popes, The Geraldine Fibbers and Spacehog. In 1997, they released their self-titled debut album on The Medicine Label. The band broke up in 1998. Twin/Tone
Twin/Tone Records was an independent record label based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, which operated from 1977 until 1994. It was the original home of influential Minnesota bands the Replacements and Soul Asylum and was instrumental in helping the Twin Cities music scene achieve national attention in the 1980s. Along with other independent American labels such as SST Records, Touch and Go Records, and Dischord, Twin/Tone helped to spearhead the nationwide network of underground bands that formed the pre-Nirvana indie-rock scene. These labels presided over the shift from the hardcore punk that then dominated the American underground scene to the more diverse styles of alternative rock that were emerging. Twin/Tone originated in the Minneapolis punk rock scene. The label was begun by Peter Jesperson, music and sports writer Charley Hallman, and Paul Stark.
