UFOFU
UFOFU was a Rock music, rock band (music), band based in Dallas, Texas. The band consisted of Joseph Butcher (musician), Joseph Butcher, and brothers Brandon Curtis and Benjamin Curtis (musician), Ben Curtis. It rose to local prominence in the mid-1990s through word of mouth and slots opening for other north Texas bands such as Hagfish and Tripping Daisy. While touring, the band opened for Local H, Smoking Popes, The Geraldine Fibbers and Spacehog. In 1997, they released their self-titled debut album on The Medicine Label. The band broke up in 1998. Butcher joined Ben Kweller's band Radish (band), Radish, Benjamin Curtis joined Tripping Daisy, and Brandon Curtis joined Captain Audio. The Curtis brothers went on to form the Secret Machines in 2000. Benjamin Curtis left the band in 2007 to form School of Seven Bells. Brandon Curtis
Brandon Curtis is the vocalist, bassist, and keyboardist in the space rock band The Secret Machines. Originally from Norman, Oklahoma, he was friends with members of The Flaming Lips, The Chainsaw Kittens and Tripping Daisy. Brandon and his brother Benjamin moved to Dallas and formed The Secret Machines in the early 2000s with drummer Josh Garza. The trio later moved to New York City, where Benjamin eventually left the band to pursue a career in his previous side project, School of Seven Bells. Career Brandon's atmospheric keyboard style shows signs of influence from 1970s Krautrock bands like Can as well as progressive rock artists such as Pink Floyd, Hawkwind, and Roxy Music. Secret Machines are an American alternative rock band, originally from Dallas, Texas, United States, before moving to New York City. The original lineup consisted of two brothers, Brandon (vocals, bass guitar and keyboards) and Benjamin Curtis (guitar and backing vocals), and Josh Garza (drums). The Medicine Label (sometimes called Medicine for short) was a record label founded in New York City in 1992, originally as a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Records. The original purpose of the label was to release "new, cutting-edge music", as Irving Azoff put it. During its initial three years, the label issued early singles by Moby, Leftfield and The Prodigy; as well, The Cramps with their critically acclaimed, alternative radio break through album '' Flamejob''. Direct Hit Records was a record label and store based in Dallas, Texas. The record label is notable for releasing early recordings by North Texas musicians who would eventually go on to prominence at a national level ( Darlington (singer) (as the band MESS), Bedhead, Baboon, Brutal Juice, UFOFU, Slowpoke, the Grown-Ups, and Dooms UK). The label went on to release recordings by out-of-Texas artists, including Secession Movement, Malachai and Michael W. Dean, between 1998 and 1999. The label operated in Dallas's Exposition Park from 1989 to 1995. Radish (band)
Radish were an American post-grunge band. The band formed in 1993 by Ben Kweller, John Kent and Ryan Green.Strong, Martin C. Ben Kweller
Benjamin Lev Kweller (born June 16, 1981) is an American singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. A former member of Radish, Kweller has released six solo albums and appeared on several collaborations. Early life Ben Kweller was born in San Francisco in 1981. In 1982, his family relocated to Emory, Texas, where his father, Howard Kweller, became the town's first doctor. In 1986, the Kwellers moved to the larger Texas town of Greenville. Kweller was exposed to music at a very early age. Howard taught Ben how to play the drums when he was seven years old. For the next year, they would play together almost every night after Howard got home from work. Howard sang and played guitar while Ben played the drums. The duo played songs by The Beatles, The Hollies, Jimi Hendrix, and other artists of the 1960s. Howard is also a longtime friend of Nils Lofgren, a neighbor of his. School of Seven Bells (often stylized as SVIIB) was an American indie rock band from New York City, formed in 2007. It originally consisted of Alejandra Deheza (vocals, guitar), her sister Claudia Deheza (keyboards, vocals) and Benjamin Curtis (guitar, synthesizers, vocals). Claudia left the group in 2010, and Curtis died of lymphoma in 2013. Using demos of songs Curtis had written prior to and during his illness, the band's fourth and final album, '' SVIIB'', was completed posthumously and released in February 2016. Spacehog are an English rock band formed in 1994 in New York City. Their music is heavily influenced by David Bowie, Queen (band), Queen, and T.Rex (band), T. Rex. The band's best known single is In the Meantime (Spacehog song), "In the Meantime". History Though all the band members are from Leeds, West Yorkshire, the band was formed in New York City. The Geraldine Fibbers were an alt-country band founded in 1994 by Carla Bozulich. Smoking Popes is an American pop punk band from the northwest suburbs of Chicago. They are composed of brothers Matt Caterer (bass), Josh Caterer (lead vocals/guitar) and Eli Caterer (guitar/backing vocals) and Mike Felumlee (drums). History Early history In 1990, the Caterer brothers formed a punk trio called Speedstick with Josh on vocals/guitar, Eli on bass, and Matt on drums. They played one gig in a friend's basement, after which the Caterer parents decided that Eli, then a sophomore in high school, would have to quit the band until after he graduated, so Matt switched to bass and Dave Martens joined on drums.
