Dinneen ( ga, Ó Duinnín for men, for women) is an Irish surname. The family was famous for having supplied generations of court poets to their overlords in the ancient kingdom of Corcu Loígde. According to historian C. Thomas Cairney, the O'Dinneens were a chiefly family of the Corca Laoghdne who in turn came from the Erainn tribe who were the second wave of Celts who settled in Ireland from 500 to 100 BC. Bill Dinneen
William Henry Dinneen, alternately spelled Dineen (April 5, 1876 – January 13, 1955), was an American right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball who followed his 12-year career from 1898 to 1909 with a highly regarded tenure as an American League umpire from 1909 to 1937. Dinneen was the plate umpire for baseball's first All-Star Game. He played for the Washington Senators and Boston Braves (both of the National League), and the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Browns of the American League. Dinneen recorded three wins for the Red Sox over the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first World Series in 1903. Dinneen broke the record for most strikeouts in a World Series game with 11; the previous mark of 10 had been set a day earlier by Pittsburgh's Deacon Phillippe. Michael J. Dinneen is an American-New Zealand mathematician and computer scientist working as a senior lecturer at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. He is co-director of the Center for Discrete Mathematics and Theoretical Computer Science. Dan Dinneen (October 6, 1870–December 6, 1948) was an American businessman and politician. Dinneen was born in Decatur, Illinois. He went to the Decatur parochial schools and to Decatur High School. He worked for the railroad. In 1892, he worked in his family's retail grocery business. In 1911, he sold the grocery business. Dinneen served as mayor of Decatur from 1911 to 1919 and was a Republican. He worked for the Illinois State Employment Office and as a mediator for state labor disputes. The Corcu Loígde (Corcu Lóegde, Corco Luigde, Corca Laoighdhe, Laidhe), meaning Gens of the Calf Goddess, also called the Síl Lugdach meic Itha, were a kingdom centred in West County Cork who descended from the proto-historical rulers of Munster, the Dáirine, of whom they were the central royal sept.
