Dicranopalpus2
''Dicranopalpus'' is a genus of harvestmen with twelve known recent species. Three fossil species have been described, all from Baltic amber, but only ''D. ramiger'' is currently considered valid. Name The genus name refers to the peculiar form of the pedipalp, palps in at least the first described species, ''D. gasteinensis'' (and ''D. ramosus''), derived from ''di'' "two", ''cranium'' "head", and ''palpus''. Species * ''Dicranopalpus angolensis'' (Lawrence, 1951) * ''Dicranopalpus bolivari'' (Dresco, 1949) (Venezuela) * ''Dicranopalpus brevipes'' (I. Marcellino, 1974) * ''Dicranopalpus caudatus'' (Dresco, 1948) * ''Dicranopalpus cantabricus'' (Dresco, 1953) * ''Dicranopalpus dispar'' (M. Rambla, 1967) * ''Dicranopalpus fraternus'' (Szalay, 1950) * ''Dicranopalpus gasteinensis'' (Doleschal, 1852) (Alps) * ''Dicranopalpus insignipalpis'' (Simon, 1879) (Corsica) * ''Dicranopalpus larvatus'' (Canestrini, 1874) (Italy) * ''Dicranopalpus martini'' (Simon, 1878) (Portugal) * ''Dicrano ...

Dicranopalpus Caudatus
''Dicranopalpus ramosus'' is a species of harvestman. Males are up to 4 mm long, females can reach up to 6 mm. Both sexes have very long legs (especially the second pair can reach up to 5 cm), with a distinct elongated apophysis that reaches almost to the end of the tibia. This makes their pedipalps look forked. Their body is brownish with dark markings, the females being lighter colored. The forked pedipalps and the resting posture, with the legs stretched to the sides, makes this species easy to identify, although the traditional method of collecting invertebrates does not prove adequate: of 103 individuals captured in Belgium, only one was found in a pitfall; all others were collected by hand. Adults can be found from August to November, mostly in gardens and on outer walls, but sometimes also inside. Distribution Originally the species was found in Morocco. Later it spread into Europe, with first reports in Portugal (1948), where it spread to Spain ...

Bitterfeld Amber
The Baltic region is home to the largest known deposit of amber, called Baltic amber or succinite. It was produced sometime during the Eocene epoch, but exactly when is controversial. It has been estimated that these forests created more than 100,000 tons of amber. Today, more than 90% of the world's amber comes from Kaliningrad Oblast of Russia. It is a major source of income for the region; the local Kaliningrad Amber Combine extracted 250 tonnes of it in 2014, 400 tonnes in 2015. "Baltic amber" was formerly thought to include amber from the Bitterfeld brown coal mines in Saxony (Eastern Germany). Bitterfeld amber was previously believed to be only 20–22 million years old (Miocene), but a comparison of the animal inclusions in 2003 suggested that it was possibly Baltic amber that was redeposited in a Miocene deposit. Further study of insect taxa in the ambers has shown Bitterfeld amber to be from the same forest as the Baltic amber forest, but separately deposited from a mor ...
