Diana Andringa
Diana Andringa GColL (born 21 August 1947), is an Angola-born Portuguese journalist, columnist, documentary filmmaker and producer. She is best known for co-directing the Guinea-Bissau film ''The Two Faces of War'' along with Flora Gomes. Personal life Andringa was born on 21 August 1947 in Dundo village of Chitato, Lunda-Norte, Angola. Her father was a Diamang employee, who later witnessed racism and racial segregation from the company. Therefore, she moved to Portugal in 1958 with the family and attended secondary school in Portugal. In 2013, she completed her PhD degree in Sociology of Communication at ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon. Career In 1964, she enrolled at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon. Flora Gomes
Flora Gomes is a Bissau-Guinean film director. He was born in Cadique, Guinea-Bissau on 31 December 1949 and after high school in Cuba, he decided to study film at the Instituto Cubano del Arte y la Industria Cinematográficos in Havana. Shot fourteen years after Guinea-Bissau#Independence (1973), independence, Gomes's ''Mortu Nega'' (''Death Denied'') (1988) was the first fiction film and the second feature film ever made in Guinea-Bissau. (The first feature film was ''N’tturudu'', by director Umban u’Kest in 1987.) At FESPACO 1989, the film won the prestigious Oumarou Ganda Prize. Cheryl Araujo
Cheryl Ann Araujo (March 28, 1961 December 14, 1986) was an American woman from New Bedford, Massachusetts, who was gang-raped in 1983 at age 21 by four men in a tavern in the city. Her case became national news and drew widespread attention to media coverage of rape trials. During the prosecution of the case, the defendants' attorneys cross-examined Araujo to such an extent about her own life and activities that the case became widely seen as a template for "blaming the victim" in rape cases. Her case was widely known as "Big Dan's rape," after the name of the bar in which the attack occurred. Ostracized in New Bedford, Araujo moved with her family to Miami to make a new life. The Two Faces Of War
''The Two Faces of War'' (''As duas faces da guerra'' in Portuguese) is a 2007 Portuguese documentary film directed by Diana Andringa and Flora Gomes. The film was shot in Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde and Portugal. The film includes a series of interviews and testimonies of people who lived through the period of the anti-colonial war and liberation in Guinea-Bissau. Content The documentary consists of interviews with veterans and leaders from Portugal, Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde. Those countries lived through the conflict spanning from 1963 to 1974, a conflict between the PAIGC (African Party for the Independence of Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde) and Portuguese troops. In 1995, Diana Andringa, visited the town of Geba as a reporter and there she found a stone half-destroyed in the name of the Portuguese soldiers killed on African soil.
