Dhefirin
''Dhefirin'' is a 1997 Maldivian film directed by Hamid Ali. Produced by Aishath Abdul Majeed under Farivaa Films, the film stars Hassan Afeef, Jamsheedha Ahmed and Asad Shareef in pivotal roles. It marks the first Maldivian film that was primarily shot in Sri Lanka. The rest of the scenes were filmed in Bangkok. Premise The film opens as Shehenaz (Jamsheedha Ahmed) applying for a post at a firm managed by Ashraf (Asad Shareef) whom she has encountered before. As days passed by, they bond and narrate their journey leading to where they are today. Shehenaz marries an aspiring entrepreneur, Shah (Hassan Afeef) who spends their whole honeymoon ignoring his wife rather investing in his future business. Their marriage life is filled with turmoil as Shah struggles with workaholism. The relationship crisis hits a new low when Shah divorces her for complaining about his priorities. Hamid Ali
Hamid Ali is a Maldivian film director, producer, actor and writer. Career In 1993, Ali starred in two films; ''Mithutu'' and ''Vari''. The following year, he starred alongside Hassan Afeef, Arifa Ibrahim, Lillian Saeed and Mariyam Haajara in Ibrahim Rasheed's family drama '' Dhevana An'bi'', in which he played a negative character, Amjad who separates a happy couple for enmity. The film revolves around a couple who gets separated due to social discrimination initiated by a cunning mother-in-law. Asad Shareef
Asad Shareef (born 3 April 1964) is a Maldivian film actor and politician. Career 1982–2003: Acting career Shareef made his career debut with the film ''Beykaaru''. The film censorship process was completed on the night of scheduled date for theatrical release. During the screening of the film, it had to be abruptly stopped as the length of the film exceeds the permitted duration of theatrical screening which led to a fuss in the cinema. Ahmed Nimal-directed drama film '' Shakku'' was released in 1988, in which Shareef starred alongside Nimal and Fathimath Rameeza as generous friend wrongly accused of cheating. Hassan Afeef
Hassan Afeef is a Maldivian film actor. He is celebrated as the actor being featured in the first Maldivian film and song. He is also noted to be the actor to have worked with most directors away from home and acted in most films that were shot abroad. Career In late 1979, Hassan Afeef, a cinema-goer used to watch several Bollywood films screened at limited cinemas in Maldives and imitate their acting afterwards among friends and family. A group of Maldivians including Afeef came up with the idea of making a regional film for the Maldivian audience though several obstacles emerged including incapability to secure finance and equipment. Jamsheedha Ahmed
Jamsheedha Ahmed (2 December 1978) is a Maldivian actress. Career 1996–99: Early releases and ''Amaanaaiy'' Ahmed made her screen debut in 1996 with the video single titled "Nudhaashe Dhookohfaa Loabivaa" performed by Abdul Sameeu. Recalling her memories of the song, Ahmed said it was a "fun experience" accepted as a favor to her friend. With her "timid" behavior and lack of trainings, Ahmed "struggled" while performing the song. However, upon release, the song was accepted among the audience where she received several offers to feature in songs and film. A year later, she made her film debut alongside Mariyam Nisha and Hussain Sobah as the caring sister of an underprivileged talented vocalist in Amjad Ibrahim's '' Loabeege Aniyaa'' (1997). Fathimath Zoona (20 October 1965) is a Maldivian singer and a recipient of several awards including one Gaumee Film Award and one Aafathis Award. Early life and career Fathimath Zoona was born on 20 October 1965 in Male'. During her childhood days, she frequently listened to old Bollywood songs and decided to pursue a career in music industry. In 1994, she participated in the "Basic Voice Training Course" which resulted in her receiving several offers from music directors and producers to sing for their films, albums, advertisements and national events. Mohamed Rashad
Mohamed Rashad (1952 – 2002) also referred as Madhaha Rashad was a Maldivian singer. Early life and career Rashad was born in 1952 in Male'. His father, Qasim Hussain was famously known for locals as "Naivaadhoo Kasim" and "Reendhoo Kasim". His mother, Hawwa Idhurees was a homemaker. He had one brother as a sibling and ten others as half-siblings including notable local artists, Ali Rameez, Ibrahim Rameez and Rafiyath Rameeza. At a very young age, persuaded by his "undying love for music", Rashad was accompanied by the music group "Maafannu Fiyaathoshi Club" to lift and transport their music instruments.
