Deventer–Almelo Railway
The Deventer–Almelo railway is an important Dutch railway line, that connects Deventer with Almelo, Netherlands. History The railway was opened by the Koninklijke Nederlandsche Locaalspoorweg-Maatschappij (KNLS) on 1 September 1888, with construction starting in 1887. When the line opened it offered a direct link to Germany via the Almelo-Salzbergen railway. The line was electrified in 1951. Route The line leaves Deventer in an easterly direction towards Almelo, shortly after leaving, the Staatslijn A to Zutphen leaves in a southerly direction. The line continues travelling through the countryside and a few towns. At Wierden the line from Zwolle joins on and the line continues. On approaching Almelo the line from Mariënberg also joins. The station arrives at Almelo, where the railway becomes the Almelo-Salzbergen railway continues east. NS Mat '64
The NS Mat '64 or Materieel '64 were electric multiple units (EMU) built by Werkspoor and later by Duewag and Waggonfabrik Talbot between 1961 and 1976. They were operated in the Netherlands by the Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) until 2016. The equipment consisted of independent four and two-car train sets called Plan T and Plan V: the Plan T is a 4-car EMU, and the Plan V is a 2-car EMU. Materieel '64 is sometimes nicknamed 'Apekoppen' (literal translation: 'monkey heads') and 'Standaard Stoptrein' ('Standard slow train') due to their distinct shape. Plan V was, for many years, with 246 units (although only 245 were present at the same time), the largest series of Nederlandse Spoorwegen rolling stock, until the arrival of the VIRM. A ''staatslijn'' (; English: state line) is a railway that was established as a result of the railway law passed on 18 August 1860 by the State in the Netherlands. 10 of these lines were built and utilized by the Maatschappij tot Exploitatie van Staatsspoorwegen. NS Class 3400
The NS Class 3400 was a series of diesel multiple unit which were in service in the Netherlands between 1996 and 2017 and were built by Duewag, Talbot and SIG between 1996 and 1998. They were operated by the Nederlandse Spoorwegen and between 1999 until 2014 under lease by Syntus. The class is referred to as DM'90 meaning diesel rolling stock (Diesel Materieel in Dutch) of the 1990s or Buffel, which means Buffalo. The DM'90 series was developed alongside the short lived, electric SM'90 ("stopping-train" or commuter rolling stock of the 1990s) series with which it shares the unusual body cross section. Class 3400 were the last DMUs in service with NS, the older DE3 ("Plan U") and DH1/2 ("Wadloper") series having been replaced by the diesel electric Stadler GTW which are still in use with other operators in the Netherlands. The Stadsgewestelijk Materieel or SGM (''English'' - Suburban Equipment or City Regional rolling stock) was an electric multiple unit (EMU) train type that was operated by the Dutch railway company Nederlandse Spoorwegen. NS Intercity Materieel
The Intercity Materieel or ICM (''English'' – Intercity Material or Intercity Rolling Stock) is an electric multiple unit (EMU) train type operated by the Nederlandse Spoorwegen in the Netherlands. The train received the nickname Koploper, because it had a so-called "walk through head". After these trains were modernized, the "walk through heads" were removed. The modernized train sets are referred to as Intercity Materieel Modern (ICMm). The prototypes were built in 1977, with full-scale production lasting from 1983 to 1994 by Talbot. NS Class 1700
The Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) Class 1700 is a class of electric locomotives built by Alstom in 1990-1994. Description The Class 1700 locomotives were built by Alstom in 1990-1994. 81 of these locomotives, numbered 1701-1781, were built. The Class 1600 was ordered in 1978, after several types of locomotives were tested in the 1970s. One of those was the French Class BB 7200, on which the 1600 is based. The 58 locomotives were delivered between 1981 and 1983. As a result of their delivery, the old Class 1000 and Class 1500 were taken out of service. Thanks to the electronic power control, these locomotives were the most economical but also the most powerful locomotives that Dutch Railways had. Deventer Railway Station
Deventer (; Sallands: ) is a city and municipality in the Salland historical region of the province of Overijssel, Netherlands. In 2020, Deventer had a population of 100,913. The city is largely situated on the east bank of the river IJssel, but it also has a small part of its territory on the west bank. Almelo
Almelo () is a municipality and a city in the eastern Netherlands. The main population centres in the town are Aadorp, Almelo, Mariaparochie, and Bornerbroek. Almelo has about 72,000 inhabitants in the middle of the rolling countryside of Twente, with the industrial centres of Enschede and Hengelo as close neighbours but also with tourist towns like Ootmarsum, Delden and Markelo only a bicycle ride away.
