Desmond Young
Desmond Young (born March 6, 2000, in Frederiction, New Brunswick) is a Canadian curler from Banff, Alberta. He is currently the third of the Alberta Golden Bears men's curling team in university curling and on the World Curling Tour. Young will represent Canada at the 2021 World Junior Curling Championships in Beijing, China. Curling career Young made his Canadian national championship debut at the 2019 New Holland Canadian Juniors after defeating Evan Van Amsterdam 8–7 in the Alberta junior provincial final. At the Canadian Juniors, Young led his rink of Dustin Mikush, Jacob Libbus, and Gabriel Dyck to a 3–3 record in pool play before defeating Ontario's Samuel Steep in a tiebreaker. Saville Community Sports Centre
The Saville Community Sports Centre is a sports facility run by the University of Alberta's Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation, where it is located in Edmonton, Alberta. It features a curling rink, tennis courts and a gymnasium. Opened in 2003, the centre currently serves as the national training centre for curling in Canada. Its curling facilities include ten sheets, and is home to a membership of nearly 2000 curlers, making it the curling club with the largest membership list in the world. 2021 World Junior Curling Championships
The World Junior Curling Championships are an annual curling bonspiel featuring the world's best curlers who are 21 years old or younger. The competitions for both men and women occur at the same venue. The men's tournament has occurred since 1975 and the women's since 1988. Since curling became an Olympic sport in 1998, the World Junior Curling Championship of the year preceding the Olympic Games have been held at the site of the curling tournament for the upcoming Games. The event has its origins in the International Junior Masters Bonspiel which began in 1968 and was held annually at the East York Curling Club. By 1973, the tournament began being called the International Junior Curling Championship and the World Junior Curling Championship in 1974, before being officially sanctioned in 1975. Joel Krats
Joel Krats (born January 7, 2002) is a Canadian curler originally from Newfoundland and Labrador. He currently plays third for the James Grattan rink in the World Curling Tour. Career In 2018, Joel Krats competed at the national-eligible age group for the first time. He had departed from his previous Labrador squad and moved over to the Gander Curling Club to join and skip for the two-time defending U16 Newfoundland & Labrador Provincial Champions; the Ethan Davidge rink. His first event was competing in the 2018 U21 Newfoundland & Labrador Provincial Championship where he finished in last place with an 0–4 record. 2020 Canadian Junior Curling Championships
The 2020 New Holland Canadian Junior Curling Championships was held from January 18 to 26 at the Langley Curling Centre and the George Preston Recreation Centre in Langley, British Columbia. The winners represented Canada at the 2020 World Junior Curling Championships in Krasnoyarsk, Russia. In the women's final, Mackenzie Zacharias and her rink of Karlee Burgess, Emily Zacharias and Lauren Lenentine out of the Altona Curling Club in Altona, Manitoba capped off a perfect 11–0 record defeating Alberta's Abby Marks rink 10–3 including a score of four in the eighth end. It was a third championship win for Burgess as she also won the title in 2016 and 2018.
