Desirée Owen
Desirée Owen (née Robertson) is a curler from Grande Prairie, Alberta. Career Owen won two provincial junior titles- in 2003 and in 2005. At the 2003 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, her Alberta team lost to Saskatchewan's Marliese Kasner (then Miller) in the semi-fina 2005 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, In 2005, her team posted an undefeated record after the round robin, but ended up losing to New Brunswick's Andrea Kelly in the fina Owen played third for Crystal Webster until she took the 2009-10 curling season off to have a baby. She did however play for the team as an alternate at the 2009 Canadian Olympic Curling TrialsOwen now skips her own team. While Owen has never played at the Tournament of Hearts, she has had some success on the Women's World Curling Tour. Her first bonspiel win was the DEKALB Superspiel in 2009 with Webster. Grande Prairie
Grande Prairie is a city in northwest Alberta, Canada within the southern portion of an area known as Peace River Country. It is located at the intersection of Highway 43 (part of the CANAMEX Corridor) and Highway 40 (the Bighorn Highway), approximately northwest of Edmonton. World Curling Tour
The World Curling Tour (WCT) is a group of curling bonspiels featuring the best male, female, and mixed doubles curlers in the world. History The World Curling Tour was founded by former World Champion Ed Lukowich, with later assistance from John Kawaja. The World Curling Tour commenced in 1992, with men's events only at first. It replaced the "Canadian Curling Tour" held the previous season. The first season consisted of 48 events (with only one outside Canada), and was sponsored by Seagram's distillery. Teams earned points in every event with the top 30 qualifying for the season ending " V.O. Cup", today known as the Players' Championship. Its first president and CEO was Lukowich. Wang Bingyu
Wang Bingyu (; ; born October 7, 1984 in Harbin, Heilongjiang; usually referred to in the media as Bingyu "Betty" Wang) is a Chinese curler. In 2009, she became the first non Northern American or European skip to win a World Championship. Curling career 2001-2008 Wang began curling in 2001. By 2004, she played in her first international event- skipping the Chinese team at the World Junior B Curling Championships. The 2010 Curlers Corner Autumn Gold Curling Classic was held from October 8 to 11 at the Calgary Curling Club in Calgary, Alberta. Kelly Scott
Kelly Scott (born June 1, 1977 in Winnipeg, Manitoba as Kelly Lynn Mackenzie) is a Canadian curler from Kelowna, British Columbia. Career 1995–2005 Scott won the 1995 Canadian Junior Curling Championships and the 1995 World Junior Curling Championships when she curled out of Manitoba. She was also runner up at the 1991 Canadian Junior Curling Championships when she played lead for Jill Staub. Scott moved to British Columbia with her family in the late 1990s. In 2005, she won her first BC Tournament of Hearts, defeating Patti Knezevic 7–6 in the final, winning in extra ends. Grand Slam Of Curling
The Grand Slam of Curling (branded as the Pinty's Grand Slam of Curling for sponsorship reasons) is a series of curling bonspiels that are a part of the annual World Curling Tour. Grand Slam events offer a purse of at least CAD$100,000, and feature the best teams from across Canada and around the World. The Grand Slam was instituted during the 2001–02 season for men and 2006–07 for women (with the 2006 Players' Championship also considered a Slam), but some of the Grand Slam events have longer histories as bonspiels. DEKALB Superspiel
The DeKalb Superspiel is a curling bonspiel that takes place at the Morris Curling Club in Morris, Manitoba. It was an event on the World Curling Tour until 2019 and the Manitoba Curling Tour, and also takes part in the Canadian Team Ranking System (CTRS). There is a men's and women's event. The event began in 2009 and is annually held usually the third weekend in November but is subject to changes if the WCT or MCA has a conflicting bonspiel.
