Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi (born 24 January 2001) is an Indonesian competition climber specializing in competition speed climbing. In November 2023, Desak was named to the BBC's 100 Women list. Competition climbing career Desak finished tenth overall in speed at the 2022 IFSC Climbing World Cup and has two World Cup podium finishes overall. She finished as runner-up at 2022 IFSC Climbing Asian Championships in Seoul, South Korea. She won the gold medal in the women's speed event at the 2023 IFSC Climbing World Championships in August 2023. Competition Speed Climbing
A climbing competition (or comp) is usually held indoors on purpose built climbing walls. There are three main types of climbing competition: lead, speed, and bouldering. In lead climbing, the competitors start at the bottom of a route and must climb it within a certain time frame in a single attempt, making sure to clip the rope into pre-placed quickdraws along the route. Bouldering competitions consist of climbing short problems without rope, with the emphasis on number of problems completed and the attempts necessary to do so. Speed climbing can either be an individual or team event, with the person or team that can climb a standardized route the fastest winning. 2023 IFSC Climbing World Cup
The 2023 IFSC Climbing World Cup is the 35th edition of the international competition climbing series organized by the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC), held in 12 locations. There are 18 events: six bouldering, six lead, and six speed events. The series begins on 23 April in Hachioji, Japan with the first bouldering competitions of the season, and concluded on 24 September in Wujiang, China. The top 3 in each competition receive medals, and the overall winners are awarded trophies.
