Derry Senior Hurling Championship
The Derry Senior Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition contested by top-tier Derry GAA clubs. The Derry County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1887. Slaughtneil are the title holders (2022) defeating Kevin Lynch's in the Final in September 2022 to win their tenth title in a row. Honours The trophy presented to the winners is the Fr Collins Cup. The winners qualify to represent their county in the Ulster Senior Club Hurling Championship. The winners can, in turn, go on to play in the All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship. Slaughtneil GAC
Robert Emmet's Gaelic Athletic Club Slaughtneil ( ga, CLG Roibeard Éiméid Sleacht Néill) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based on the townland of Slaughtneil, near Maghera, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. The club is a member of Derry GAA and competes in Gaelic football, hurling and camogie. The club is named after Irish patriot and revolutionary Robert Emmet and the club plays its home games at Emmet Park. Slaughtneil have won the Derry Senior Football Championship six times and the Derry Senior Hurling Championship 16 times. Slaughtneil also won their first Derry senior camogie championship in 2012, and has since won three All-Ireland Senior Club Camogie Championship titles. The championship began on 23 July 2014 and ended on 28 September 2014. Hurling Competitions In County Londonderry
Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurley (in Irish a ', pronounced or ) to hit a small ball called a ' between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points. Donegal GAA
The Donegal County Board ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Dhún na nGall) or Donegal GAA is one of 32 county boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) in Ireland, and is responsible for the administration of Gaelic games in County Donegal. The County Board is responsible for preparing the Donegal county teams in the various Gaelic sporting codes; football, hurling, camogie and handball. Dungiven GAC
St Canice's GAC Dungiven ( ga, Cumann Chainnigh Naofa Dún Geimhin) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Dungiven, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. It is part of Derry GAA. It currently caters for Gaelic football and Ladies' Gaelic football. The hurling club in the town is Kevin Lynch's. The club's biggest success was when they won the 1997 Ulster Senior Club Football Championship. They have also won the Derry Senior Football Championship on seven occasions, and the Derry GAA Senior Hurling Championship nine times. Dungiven GAC was a combined football and hurling club until 1981. Waterside, Derry
The Waterside (Ulster-Scots: ''Wattèrbroo'', ) generally refers to the part of Derry on the east bank of the River Foyle. Traditionally, the Waterside ends at the Caw roundabout near the Foyle Bridge. Areas such as Eglinton and Limavady are not part of the Waterside. The Waterside is a mainly Protestant and unionist area, while the rest of Derry City is mainly Irish Catholic and nationalist. During the Troubles, the Waterside's Protestant population grew, probably as a result of Protestants moving there from the west side of the river.
