Duncan Preston (born 11 August 1946) is an English actor. He is known for his appearances in television productions written by Victoria Wood, including his role in the soap opera parody sketches ''Acorn Antiques'' and as Stan in the sitcom ''dinnerladies'' (1998–2000). He reprised his role of Clifford in '' Acorn Antiques: The Musical!'' in 2005. James Thornton (actor)
James Thornton (born 31 October 1975) is an English actor and voice-over artist. He is best known for portraying John Barton on the long-running British soap opera ''Emmerdale'' from 2009 to 2012; he previously appeared in the show in 1995. Personal life Thornton married the actress Joanna Page in December 2003. They have four children. Four years before their marriage, they both appeared in the BBC adaptation of the Charles Dickens novel ''David Copperfield''; he as Ham Peggotty, she as Dora Spenlow. John Barton is a fictional character from the British soap opera ''Emmerdale'', played by James Thornton. The actor was asked to audition for the part and he called it the "most frightening audition" he had ever done. Thornton won the role of John, who was introduced to ''Emmerdale'' along with his family as part of an overhaul of the show by the series producer Gavin Blyth. The Barton family took over the running of Butler's Farm and they were described as being "sexy, modern and contemporary".
