Deportivo Kansas
Deportivo Kansas was a Peruvian futsal club that played in the División de Honor. The club was a runner-up in the 2003 season and division championships in both 2004 and 2006. In addition to winning the 2004 Copa Merconorte de Futsal, they placed second in the 2004 Copa Libertadores de Futsal; the farthest a Peruvian futsal club had come in that competition. The club dissolved in 2007. History The foundation date of the club is unknown. The first news about Deportivo Kansas appeared after the club finished second in the División de Honor and subsequently qualified for the Copa Libertadores de Futsal. In 2004, the club participated in the 4th Copa Libertadores de Futsal in Quito. Deportivo Kansas started the competition in Group B, and eventually finished in second place, qualifying for the semifinals. División De Honor De Fútbol Sala (Perú)
The División de Honor (Honor Division) is the top Peruvian futsal league organized by the Peruvian Football Federation. History Futsal was created in Uruguay around 1930 by Juan Carlos Ceriani a professor of physical education of the Montevideo's Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA). Later, the sport was introduced in Perú, around 1960, by Lima's YMCA. During the 1970s Dante Vargas and the Instituto Nacional de Recreación (National Recreation Institute) tried to promote the sport, but they failed because of the popularity of street football. Years later, the Peruvian Football Federation, helped by some Regatas Lima club members, tried to develop a program to promote futsal, but it failed again. Futsal
Futsal is a football-based game played on a hardcourt, hard court smaller than a football pitch, and mainly indoors. It has similarities to five-a-side football and Indoor soccer, indoor football. Futsal is played between two teams of five players each, one of whom is the goalkeeper. Unlimited substitutions are permitted. Unlike some other forms of indoor soccer, it is played on a hard court surface marked by lines; walls or boards are not used. It is played with a smaller, harder, lower-bounce ball than football. The surface, ball and rules favour ball control and passing in small spaces. The game emphasizes control, improvisation, creativity and technique. The Copa Libertadores de Clubes de Futsal ( en, South American Club Futsal Championship, pt, Campeonato Sul-Americano de Futebol de Salão) is an international futsal competition disputed between the best clubs of South America. Since 2002, the tournament is formally organized by CONMEBOL. Competition format Since 2002, the competition is divided in two zones, ''Zona Norte'' (North Zone) and ''Zona Sur'' (South Zone).
