Pontifical Catholic University of Peru ( es, link=no, Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, PUCP) is a private university in Lima, Peru. It was founded in 1917 with the support and approval of the Catholic Church, being the oldest private institution of higher learning in the country. The person who dealt the necessary formalities was Catholic priest Jorge Dintilhac. The Peruvian historian and politician José de la Riva-Agüero y Osma would become his main benefactor by leaving him most of his assets as an inheritance, as it was then a more religious educational institution and linked to the Catholic Church; in contrast to his alma mater and original destination of his inheritance, the National University of San Marcos, where Riva-Agüero considered that liberal ideas and atheism predominated here. Gérald Lacroix
Gérald Cyprien Lacroix (; born July 27, 1957) is the Archbishop of Quebec and Primate of Canada since his appointment by Pope Benedict XVI on 22 February 2011. He has been a cardinal since 22 February 2014. He was previously Auxiliary Bishop of Quebec. Early life Lacroix was born on 27 July 1957 in Saint-Hilaire-de-Dorset in the Archdiocese of Quebec and completed his secondary and higher education at Trinity High School in Manchester, New Hampshire, and Saint Anselm College in the neighbouring town of Goffstown. He then studied for his theological training at Université Laval, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in theology. He continued with a master's degree in pastoral theology. MartÃn Adán
MartÃn Adán (Lima, October 27, 1908 - January 29, 1985), pseudonym of Rafael de la Fuente Benavides, was a Peruvian poet whose body of work is notable for its hermeticism and metaphysical depth. From a very young age Adán demonstrated great literary talent (talent he shared with classmates Emilio Adolfo Westphalen ( ES) and Estuardo Núñez ( ES)). As time passed, he lived with increasing economic difficulty and suffered from serious alcoholism. A good part of his final years were spent in sanitariums, until his death in 1985. The American Beat poet Allen Ginsberg showed interest in Adán's work and in the writer himself. Taking advantage of his trip to Peru where he planned to study the ayahuasca, Ginsberg was able to interview MartÃn Adán. The National Agrarian University, also formally called National Agrarian University – La Molina (Spanish: ''Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina'') (UNALM), is a public university in Lima, Peru. It is the country's best university in the fields of agricultural, biological, and forestry sciences and the only university in Peru offering degrees in meteorology. Pisco, Peru
Pisco ( qu, Pisqu) is a city located in the Department of Ica of Peru, the capital of the Pisco Province. The city is around 9 metres (28 feet) above sea level. Pisco was founded in 1640, close to the indigenous emplacement of the same name. Pisco originally prospered because of its nearby vineyards and became noted for its grape brandy or pisco which was exported from its port. Pisco has an estimated population of 104,656 (est. 2015). San Miguel District, Lima
San Miguel is one of the 43 districts that are part of the Lima province and is part of the urban area of Lima, Peru. It is bordered by the districts of Bellavista and downtown Lima on the north; Pueblo Libre, Magdalena del Mar and downtown Lima on the east; the Pacific Ocean on the south; and the La Perla district on the west. Adolfo Cristobal Winternitz, birth name: Adolf Gustav Winternitz(-)Wurmser (20 October 1906, Vienna – 17 June 1993, Lima) was a Peruvian artist of Austrian origin, with Jewish roots and belonging to a Lutheran family. He and his family converted to Catholicism. His children are Clara, Elena, Andrés and Isabel Winternitz de Riess. Biography Adolfo Winternitz was enrolled at the age of 15 in the Academy of Arts in Vienna. From 1921 to 1929 he studied painting, sculpture and graphics with professor Karl Sterrer. Juan Luis Cipriani Thorne
Juan Luis Cipriani Thorne (born 28 December 1943) is a Peruvian prelate of the Catholic Church. He was Archbishop of Lima from 1999 to 2019. He has been a bishop since 1988 and was made a cardinal in 2001. Early life and career Cipriani attended the Colegio Santa Maria Marianistas, a Catholic school, and as a young man he was a member of the Peruvian national basketball team for six years.
