The Denmark women's national rugby union team are a national sporting side of Denmark, representing them at rugby union. The side played their first test match in 2003 against the Netherlands. History Denmark made their test debut against the Netherlands on 8 May 2003 in Amsterdam, the Dutch routed them 113–0. So far, Denmark has only played five international games and participated in just two regional tournaments — the 2003 and 2004 2004 was designated as an International Year of Rice by the United Nations, and the International Year to Commemorate the Struggle Against Slavery and its Abolition (by UNESCO). Rugby union, commonly known simply as rugby, is a close-contact team sport that originated at Rugby School in the first half of the 19th century. One of the two codes of rugby football, it is based on running with the ball in hand. In its most common form, a game is played between two teams of 15 players each, using an oval-shaped ball on a rectangular field called a pitch. The field has H-shaped goalposts at both ends. The Netherlands women's national rugby union team are a national sporting side of Netherlands, representing them at rugby union. The side first played in 1982. History The Netherlands' women's national rugby union team hosted the first ever women's international women's rugby union match. This match took place in Utrecht on June 13, 1982. France won against the Netherlands with 4–0. The Netherlands made their debut at the 1991 World Cup. They finished in 7th place out of 12 teams. They hosted the 1998 World Cup and qualified for the 2002 World Cup, where they finished 13th and 15th. Women's rugby has increased in popularity in the Netherlands in the past decades. The airing of the 2015 World Cup on national television has further attributed to the increase in popularity. 2003 FIRA Women's European Championship
The 2003 FIRA Women's European Championship was the seventh edition of the tournament and featured only eight teams, divided into pools A and B. For the first time the A and B pools were also organised as separate competitions in different venues, and in different weeks. The A Pool in Malmö was won by Spain, and the B pool by Netherlands. France and Spain were represented by their respective "A" teams. The 2004 FIRA Women's European Championship took place at grounds in and around the Midi-Pyrénées region of France (near Toulouse) between 30 April to 9 May.
