Delsjö Golf Club
Delsjö Golf Club is a golf club located 3 km south of central Gothenburg, Sweden. It has hosted the Delsjö Ladies Open and Gothenburg Ladies Open on the Ladies European Tour. History Located in the Delsjön Nature Reserve in eastern Gothenburg, a reservoir for the city, construction was approved by the Gothenburg Municipality Assembly on 17 September 1959 after much wrangling. The municipal course, rare for Sweden, was built with the help of 13 corporate sponsors. The club was admitted to the Swedish Golf Federation in 1962 and the full 18 hole course was completed in 1965. Together with Royal Drottningholm Golf Club the club hosted the Volvo Open in 1970, where Frenchman Jean Garaïalde ultimately prevailed over Jack Nicklaus by one shot, while The Open Championship, The Open champions Bob Charles (golfer), Bob Charles, Peter Thomson (golfer), Peter Thomson and Kel Nagle trailed further behind. Kel Nagle
Kelvin David George Nagle AM (21 December 1920 – 29 January 2015) was an Australian professional golfer best known for winning The Open Championship in 1960. He won at least one tournament each year from 1949 to 1975. Early life Nagle was born in North Sydney. Because of five-and-a-half years of World War II military service (1939–45), Nagle got a late start on pro golf, as he played no golf between ages 19 and 24, and turned pro at age 25 (1946). He made up for lost time by winning at least one tournament each year from 1949 to 1975. Professional career During his early career, he had a long swing and was regarded as the longest hitter on the Australasia tour, as evidenced by the Australian press dubbing him as "the Pymble Crusher". Swedish International Stroke Play Championship
The Swedish International Stroke Play Championship or Swedish International (SI) was a golf tournament played in Sweden from 1945 to 2007. It has been featured on the Swedish Golf Tour and the Challenge Tour. Named the Swedish Golf Federation 72-hole Stroke Play Championship at inception, it was known locally as the Svenskt Internationellt Slagtävlingsmästerskap (SISM) until it formally assumed the name Swedish International in 1984. Professionals and amateurs competed separately from 1945 to 1958, before being amateur only from 1959 to 1983, turning open to any golfer from 1984 with the introduction of the Swedish Golf Tour (SGT). Marie-Laure De Lorenzi-Taya
Marie-Laure de Lorenzi (born 21 January 1961, in Biarritz) is a French professional golfer, also known by her married name Marie-Laure Taya. She won 19 tournaments in a span of eleven seasons on the Ladies European Tour, putting her third, later tied third, on the all-time list of number of wins on the tour. Amateur career De Lorenzi played for her country in the European Lady Junior's Team Championship, for players up to the age of 21, from she was 14 years old in 1975 until 1982 and was on the winning team in 1979. Cathy Panton
Catherine Rita Panton-Lewis (born 14 June 1955) is a Scottish professional golfer who was a founding member of the Ladies European Tour and won its first Order of Merit. Her father was John Panton, MBE, a professional golfer who played on three Ryder Cup teams. Panton was born in Bridge of Allan, Scotland. As an amateur, she won the British Ladies Amateur in 1976, winning 1-up over Alison Sheard. Later that year, she was a member of the Great Britain & Ireland Espirito Santo Trophy team. She was captain of the University of Edinburgh golf team in 1976 and 1977, and was Scottish Universities Champion in 1977. She was named Scottish Sportswoman of the Year in 1976. Sebastian Söderberg
Jan Sebastian Söderberg (born 19 September 1990) is a Swedish professional golfer. Early life and amateur career Söderberg was born in Eksjö in Småland, Sweden, but grew up playing golf at Delsjö Golf Club in Gothenburg on the west coast of the country. He won four junior tournaments in the Gothenburg area. He was part of the Swedish team winning the 2008 European Boys' Team Championship at Bled Golf Club, Slovenia. He also represented Sweden twice at the European Amateur Team Championship. Söderberg played college golf at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina from 2009 to 2013, where he won twice. His best World Amateur Golf Ranking was 51st. The European Tour, currently titled as the DP World Tour for sponsorship reasons, and legally the PGA European Tour or the European Tour Group, is the leading men's professional golf tour in Europe. The organisation also operates the European Senior Tour (for players aged 50 or older) and the developmental Challenge Tour; the second tier of men's professional golf in Europe.
