Sayak Airport
Sayak Airport ( Surigaonon: ''Tugpahanan nan Sayak'') , commonly known as Siargao Airport, is the main airport serving Siargao Island located in Del Carmen, Surigao del Norte, Philippines. The airport is designated as a Class 2 principal (minor domestic) airport by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP). History Siargao Airport was built in 1963 by President Diosdado Macapagal. In 2008, President Gloria Arroyo initiated the Super Regions Program to improve economic activity through infrastructure projects. The original airport could accommodate 19-seater planes from Cebu. The airport was renovated and upgraded with the current runway which accommodates larger aircraft carrying more than 70 passengers. Siargao
Siargao is a tear-drop shaped island in the Philippine Sea situated 196 kilometers southeast of Tacloban. It has a land area of approximately . Surigaonon Language
Surigaonon is an Austronesian language spoken by Surigaonon people. As a regional Philippine language, it is spoken in the province of Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Sur, and some portions of Agusan del Norte, especially the towns near the Mainit Lake, Agusan del Sur and Davao Oriental. External relationships Surigaonon is a member of the Bisayan languages. It has been heavily influenced by Cebuano due to the influx of many Cebuanos in the region. However, most Cebuano speakers can hardly understand Surigaonon speakers, except for Cebuanos who have been living in the region for years.
