Deja Young
Deja Young (born June 10, 1996) is an American Paralympic athlete from Dallas, Texas. She participates in the T46 sprinting events. Biography Deja Young is the youngest daughter of Don and Delora Young, and she has an older sister named Dyani. She was born with brachial plexus, or shoulder dystocia, which has caused nerve damage and limited mobility in her right shoulder. This was caused during childbirth by a panicked doctor who pulled on her head too hard, causing her right shoulder to dislocate. She had to undergo three surgeries to reduce her discomfort. Sporting career Young was a standout volleyball and softball player in high school. However, her disability hindered her performance, and she decided to do track and field athletics. When she took part in track events as a freshman, she discovered speed, and has been interested from then on. Paralympic Athletics
Para-athletics is the sport of athletics practised by people with a disability as a disabled sports, parasport. The list of athletics events, athletics events within the parasport are mostly the same as those available to able-bodied people, with two major exceptions in wheelchair racing and the club throw, which are specific to the division. Alicja Fiodorow-Jeromin (born 22 May 1985) is a Paralympic athlete from Poland competing mainly in category T46 sprint events. She competed in the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens, Greece. There she won a bronze medal in the women's 400 metres - T46 event, finished fourth in the women's 100 metres - T46 event and finished fourth in the women's 200 metres - T46 event. Competing in the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, China, she won a silver medal in the women's 200 metres - T46 event and a bronze medal in the women's 100 metres - T46 event. Wang Yanping
Wang Yanping (born 22 November 1993) is a Paralympic athlete from China who competes in throwing events for F37 classification athletes. Athletic career Wang became involved in sport in 2005. Her first major international games was the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships in Christchurch. She entered the 100m, 200m and 400m sprints, her best result being fourth place in the 400 m race. A year later she competed at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London where she won bronze in the 100m T46 sprint. Shoulder Dystocia
Shoulder dystocia is when, after vaginal delivery of the head, the baby's anterior shoulder gets caught above the mother's pubic bone. Signs include retraction of the baby's head back into the vagina, known as "turtle sign". Complications for the baby may include brachial plexus injury, or clavicle fracture. Complications for the mother may include vaginal or perineal tears, postpartum bleeding, or uterine rupture. Risk factors include gestational diabetes, previous history of the condition, operative vaginal delivery, obesity in the mother, an overly large baby, and epidural anesthesia. It is diagnosed when the body fails to deliver within one minute of delivery of the baby's head. It is a type of obstructed labour. Shoulder dystocia is an obstetric emergency. The Parapan American Games is an international multi-sport event for athletes with physical disabilities held every four years after every Pan American Games. The first Games were held in 1999 in Mexico City, Mexico. The 2003 Parapan American Games was the last Parapan American Games that was not held in the same city as the Pan American Games.
