De Dijk
De Dijk (English: The Dike (construction), Dike) is a Dutch Rock music, rock Musical ensemble, band which formed in 1981. The band is named after Zeedijk, a street in their hometown Amsterdam. Their music can be described as a mixture of Soul music, soul, blues and rock 'n roll, with lyrics sung only in Dutch language, Dutch, except for their 2010 album ''Hold On Tight''; the song 'Enough is Enough', both of which are sung in English by Solomon Burke; and ''Stupid Guy'' from the album ''Wakker in een vreemde wereld'', performed in English by the regular band. They are considered one of the most important Dutch acts of the past 40 years. De Dijk was formed by Huub van der Lubbe, who also is an actor and poet, his brother Hans van der Lubbe and Nico Arzbach. Solomon Vincent McDonald Burke (born James Solomon McDonald, March 21, 1936 or 1940 – October 10, 2010) was an American singer who shaped the sound of rhythm and blues as one of the founding fathers of soul music in the 1960s. He has been called "a key transitional figure bridging R&B and soul", and was known for his "prodigious output". He had a string of hits including "Cry to Me", " If You Need Me", "Got to Get You Off My Mind", " Down in the Valley", and " Everybody Needs Somebody to Love". The Buma Cultuur Pop Award ''(De Popprijs'') is presented each January to a person or artist for making the most important contribution to Dutch pop music during the past year. The winner is appointed by a professional jury. The Pop Award is presented by Buma Cultuur, an organization which encourages and promotes Dutch music, supported by the Dutch music rights foundation Buma/Stemra. The first four editions of the prize were named ''BV Popprijs''. The first edition of the award was presented to Mathilde Santing in discotheque Escape in Amsterdam on November 25, 1985 for her achievements of that year. The prize for 1986 was presented in January 1987 to Claw Boys Claw, establishing the practice to present the award in the following year. The Golden Harp ''(Dutch: Gouden Harp)'' is awarded annually to Dutch musicians for their entire oeuvre. Golden Harps have been awarded 42 times. 149 different persons or (musical) groups have had the honour of receiving the award which is considered to be one of the most important prizes in Dutch music. Background The awards were first presented in 1962. The prize is intended for a musician's entire oeuvre. The website of Buma Cultuur states the following: "Considered for this award are persons who have made themselves particularly meritorious for Dutch light music throughout their careers." The Zilveren Harp (Silver Harp) is a Dutch award given annually to promising musical talent. The award is very prestigious and winners are chosen by a different jury each year. JB Meijers
Jan-Bart "JB" Meijers (born June 10, 1972) is a Dutch multi-instrumentalist, producer, composer, singer and studio engineer. He is currently a member of the Dutch-American band The Common Linnets. Early life Meijers was born in Delft, Netherlands. He, coming from a musical family, was taught from an early age to play several different instruments at his parents' home. Career At age seventeen, Meijers signed a record deal with Virgin Records. He then joined Richard Janssen's post- Fatal Flowers band Shine with artists Marc De Reus, Marius Schrader, and Bart van Poppel. Based in Amsterdam's DDL studio, Meijers had his first opportunity to experiment with professional recording gear. He exclusively toured with Shine until 1995. Van Dik Hout
thumb Van Dik Hout are a Dutch pop group from Den Helder in the north of the Netherlands. They formed in the late 1980s as a school band, but moved later to Amsterdam where they rechristened themselves into Van Dik Hout. The band's biggest hit was 'Stil in mij' (''Silent inside of me'') in 1994 from their first album 'Van Dik Hout', which became platinum in The Netherlands. With this hit, the band also won a MTV Local Hero Award and a Zilveren Harp, a Dutch musical award. In the early 2000s they partnered with Dutch duo Acda en de Munnik to form the band De Poema's, under which name they had a number one hit in 2001 with ''Zij maakt het verschil'' (''She makes the difference'').
