David Phiri
David Phiri (22 May 1937 – 16 January 2012) was a Zambian businessman who was a former Governor of the Central Bank of Zambia. He was also Chairman of the Football Association of Zambia. Eearly life and family history David Phiri, or 'DARP', was born in what is now known as Zimbabwe, on 22 May 1937, to Abel Masewera Phiri and Elizabeth Sibanda. His father, Abel had decided to leave Kapela village near Chadiza, Northern Rhodesia, to find work in the mines of Northern Rhodesia. Abel had the firm belief that the traditional village life of the African was going to end and turned down a Chewa chiefdom to enter the 'new world'. He left Kapela village on foot with two companions and ending up in a mine town called Kwekwe, where he found work at the Globe and Phoenix Mine. Kwekwe
Kwekwe ( ), known until 1983 as Que Que, is a city in the Midlands province of central Zimbabwe. The city has a population of 119,863 within the city limits, as of the 2022 census, making it the 7th-largest city in Zimbabwe and the second-most populous city in the Midlands, behind Gweru. The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews is one of the oldest golf clubs in the world. It is a private members-only club based in St Andrews in Scotland. It was previously known colloquially as "The R&A", but in 2004, a new organisation known as The R&A was spun off, assuming the club's functions as one of the governing authorities of the game and organiser of tournaments such as The Open Championship. Kenneth Kaunda
Kenneth David Kaunda (28 April 1924 – 17 June 2021), also known as KK, was a Zambian politician who served as the first President of Zambia from 1964 to 1991. He was at the forefront of the struggle for independence from British rule. Dissatisfied with Harry Nkumbula's leadership of the Northern Rhodesian African National Congress, he broke away and founded the Zambian African National Congress, later becoming the head of the socialist United National Independence Party (UNIP). Kaunda was the first president of independent Zambia. In 1973, following tribal and inter-party violence, all political parties except UNIP were banned through an amendment of the constitution after the signing of the Choma Declaration.
