Danish Society Of Female Artists
Kvindelige Kunstneres Samfund (KKS) or Society of Female Artists is a Danish organization which strives to enable women to work as professional artists on equal terms with their male counterparts. KKS was founded by the painters Marie Henriques and Helvig Kinch on 7 February 1916. With the support of the painter Anna Ancher and the sculptor Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen, 75 artists attended the inaugural meeting. Today the organization has over 250 members. Marie Henriques
Marie Henriques (26 June 1866 – 12 January 1944) was a Danish painter who created landscapes, figure paintings and portraits, initially in the Realist style but increasingly under the influence of Impressionism. She also painted watercolours of ancient architecture and sculpture. In 1916, she was a founding member of the Society of Women Artists (Kvindelige Kunstneres Samfund). Early life and education Born into the wealthy Danish-Jewish Henriques family in Copenhagen, Marie Henriques was the daughter of Martin Henriques (1825-1912) and Therese Abrahamsen (1833-1882) a pianist. The family shared their time between their first-floor apartment in the Brønnum House on Kongens Nytorv and the country house Petershøj in Klampenborg. Lise Ring
Lise Ring (born 1936) is a Danish sculptor who has been active in the country's art organizations. Working with stone, concrete, wood and silver, she has created naturalistic works depicting women, children and animals. Her organizational responsibilities have included selection judge and committee member for the Charlottenborg Exhibitions and chair of the Billedkunstnernes Forbund (Visual Artists Association) and of the Kvindelige Kunstneres Samfund (Society of Female Artists). Helvig Kinch
Helvig Agnete Kinch née Amsinck (1872–1956) was a Danish artist who specialized in painting animals, especially horses. In the early 20th-century, she participated in archaeological research near Lindos on the island of Rhodes, creating landscapes of the area and illustrating the artefacts discovered there. Together with Marie Henriques, in 1916 she established the Danish Society of Female Artists (Kvindelige Kunstneres Samfund) to encourage women artists to exhibit their works. Inger Lut Debois
Inger Merete Lut Debois née Andersen (1931–2015) was a Danish painter. She is remembered for her works with interacting figures which became increasingly abstract as she matured. In 1992, Debois decorated the IC3 train "Thyra Danebod". From 1992 to 2000, she headed Kvindelige Kunstneres Samfund (KKS), the Danish Society of Female Artists. Gudrun Poulsen
Gudrun Thorgerd Erna Poulsen (7 March 1918– 20 July 1999) was a Danish painter. Inspired by nature, she painted mainly country landscapes, often including cows. From the 1960s, she spent much of her time painting on the island of Møn while in the 1970s she turned to religious works with animals. A strong supporter of women artists, from 1954 to 1992 she headed Denmark's Society of Female Artists. Early life Born in Copenhagen, Gudrun Thorgerd Erna Poulsen was the daughter of the lawyer Poul Mikael Poulsen (1880–1939) and the schoolteacher Jenny Ottosen (1881–1950).
