Bormio
Bormio ( lmo, Bormi, rm, italic=yes, , german: Worms im Veltlintal) is a town and ''comune'' with a population of about 4,100 located in the Province of Sondrio, Lombardy region of the Alps in northern Italy. The centre of the upper Valtellina valley, it is a popular winter sports resort. It was the site of the Alpine World Ski Championships in 1985 and 2005, and annually hosts the Alpine Ski World Cup. The 2010 World Championship of Ski Mountaineering ( ca, Campionats del Món d’Esquí de Muntanya 2010) was the first World Championship of Ski Mountaineering sanctioned by the International Ski Mountaineering Federation (ISMF), successor organization of the International Council for Ski Mountaineering Competitions (ISMC). The competition was held in the skiing area of Gran Valira in the Pyrenees, Andorra, from March 1 to March 6, 2010. Jean Pellissier (30 July 1972 – 27 October 2023) was an Italian ski mountaineer, mountain runner, and sky runner. Career Pellissier started ski mountaineering in 1997 and competed first in the Mezzalama Trophy race in the same year. He has been member of the national team since 2002. Since finishing his professional career he ran a mountain equipment store in Martigny. Death Jean Pellissier died on 27 October 2023, at the age of 51.
