Daniel Ottensamer
Daniel Ottensamer is an Austrian clarinetist and the principal clarinet of the Vienna Philharmonic. Life and career Ottensamer first began learning the piano in 1992, and switched to cello after two years. He then took up the clarinet, studying with Anton Hafenscher at the Music School in Perchtoldsdorf. In 2004, he began studying under Johann Hindler at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. In September 2009, he was appointed first clarinetist of the Vienna State Opera Orchestra. Ottensamer has won several prizes at various international clarinet competitions. These include the Grand Scholarship Competition of the Munich Concert Society in 2005; the Animato Foundation in Zurich in 2006; and the Carl Nielsen International Clarinet Competition in 2009. The Vienna Philharmonic (VPO; german: Wiener Philharmoniker, links=no) is an orchestra that was founded in 1842 and is considered to be one of the finest in the world. Johann "Hans" Hindler is an Austrian clarinetist. Hindler teaches clarinet at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. He also plays clarinet in the Vienna Philharmonic. Vienna State Opera Orchestra
The Vienna State Opera (, ) is an opera house and opera company based in Vienna, Austria. The 1,709-seat Renaissance Revival venue was the first major building on the Vienna Ring Road. It was built from 1861 to 1869 following plans by August Sicard von Sicardsburg and Eduard van der Nüll, and designs by Josef Hlávka. The opera house was inaugurated as the "Vienna Court Opera" (''Wiener Hofoper'') in the presence of Emperor Franz Joseph I and Empress Elisabeth of Austria. It became known by its current name after the establishment of the First Austrian Republic in 1921. Ernst Ottensamer
Ernst Ottensamer (5 October 1955 – 22 July 2017) was an Austrian classical clarinetist. Early life Born in Wallern an der Trattnach in Upper Austria, Ottensamer's father, also named Ernst Ottensamer, was a former mayor of Wallern. Ottensamer studied the clarinet at the Bruckner-Konservatorium in Linz. He continued his studies in Vienna at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (''Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Wien''), where he completed his studies in 1979. His teachers included Peter Schmidl. Career Ottensamer joined the orchestra of the Vienna State Opera in 1979. He became principal clarinetist of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in 1983. Andreas Ottensamer
Andreas Ottensamer (born 4 April 1989) is an Austrian clarinettist and is one of the solo clarinettists of the Berlin Philharmonic. Life Born in Vienna, Ottensamer commenced his musical studies in 1999 at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna on piano and then on violoncello with Wolfgang Herzer and then from 2003 clarinet with Johann Hindler. Ottensamer also enrolled as a student at Harvard University in the United States. Ottensamer first gained his orchestral experience as substitute clarinet in the Vienna State Opera and the Vienna Philharmonic and is a former member of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra. In October 2009, he was a fellow of the Orchestra Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic. From July 2010 to February 2011, he was solo clarinettist of the German Symphony Orchestra, Berlin and since March 2011 he fills the position of solo clarinet with the Berlin Philharmonic.
