Daniel Burke (music Promoter)
Daniel Burke (born 1957) is a Canadian journalist and music promoter. Journalist Burke was born into a working class Irish Catholic family in the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce district of Montreal, where he grew up. As a teenager, he started to work as a copyboy for the ''Montreal Gazette'', the main English language newspaper in Montreal, where his father Timothy, worked as a sports writer. As a teenager, he knew many members of the West End Gang. Burke recalled in 2011 that he used to see Frank "Dunnie" Ryan, Allan "the Weasel" Ross and other West End Gang members playing pool at Smitty's Bar, saying it was "like a scene out of ''Goodfellas''. That's what it was like". Notre-Dame-de-Grâce
Notre-Dame-de-Grâce ( en, Our Lady of Grace), also nicknamed NDG, is a residential neighbourhood of Montreal in the city's West End, with a population of 166,520 (2016). An independent municipality until annexed by the City of Montreal in 1910, NDG is today one half of the borough of Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce. Julian Sher
Julian Sher is a Canadian investigative journalist, filmmaker, author and newsroom trainer based in Montreal, Quebec. He was an investigative producer for ten years then a senior producer for five years with the CBC's '' The Fifth Estate''. He has written extensively about outlaw motorcycle gangs, child abuse and the justice system. Career Sher began work at CBC in Montreal as an on-air radio journalist and show producer from 1983 to 1986. From 1986 to 1989, he was an investigative reporter for CBC Television in Montreal. He became a producer for the CBC network program '' The Fifth Estate'' from 1989 to 2001, where he covered wrongful convictions, police corruption, war criminals and biker gangs. Sher played a leading role alongside Daniel Burke and Hana Gartner in exposing Inspector Claude Savoie of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police as corrupt. The Barmitzvah Brothers
The Barmitzvah Brothers are a Canadian indie pop band from Guelph. Known for their use of fiddle as well as unusual and homemade instruments, and for their quirky and original lyrics focusing on everyday life, the working world and ordinary people. The band's sound crosses many genres. History The band was formed in April 2000 and originally consisted of three members. Jenny Mitchell, Gillian Manford and Geordie Gordon, son of Canadian singer-songwriter James Gordon, started the band to compete in a school talent show. John Dwyer (musician)
John Dwyer is an American multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, songwriter, visual artist and record label owner. He is best known as the founding member and primary songwriter of the garage rock band Osees, with whom he has released 23 studio albums. In addition to his work with Osees, Dwyer records solo material under the name "Damaged Bug". From 2020-2021, Dwyer released several improvisation-based records with a rotating collective of different artists, including "Bent Arcana", "Witch Egg", "Endless Garbage", "Moon Drenched" and "Gong Splat". He is also a former member of the garage rock acts Coachwhips, Pink and Brown and The Hospitals. Dwyer is currently based in Los Angeles, California, although for much of his career he was based in San Francisco, California. The Deadly Snakes were a Canadian indie rock band influenced by garage rock, folk rock, and early R&B. History Formed in Toronto in 1996, the band's final line-up consisted of André Ethier on vocals and guitars, Matthew Carlson on guitar, trumpet and bass, Chad Ross on guitar, bass and mandolin, Jeremi Madsen on guitar, bass, saxophone and percussion, Max McCabe-Lokos (using the stage name ''Age of Danger'') on piano, organ and percussion, and Andrew "Gunn" Moszynski on guitar and drums. Sloan is a Canadian rock music, rock band based in Toronto and originally from Halifax Regional Municipality, Halifax, Nova Scotia. The Brian Jonestown Massacre is an American musical project and band led and started by Anton Newcombe. It was formed in San Francisco in 1990. The group was the subject of the 2004 documentary film called '' Dig!'', and have gained media notoriety for their tumultuous working relationships as well as the erratic behavior of Newcombe. Hana Gartner CM is a retired Canadian investigative journalist who is best known as the host and interviewer of several programs for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Early life and education Gartner was born in 1948 in Prague, Czechoslovakia, but grew up in Chomedey, Laval, Quebec.
