Dan Hunter (chef)
Dan Hunter is an Australian chef. He owns and operates Brae restaurant in Birregurra, Victoria, which was ranked 44 in The World's 50 Best Restaurants, 2017. Hunter started his career as a dishwasher, and worked in Australia and Britain before getting a job at Mugaritz restaurant in Spain where he was chef de cuisine. He returned to Australia and worked for six years as head chef of the Royal Mail Restaurant in Dunkeld, Victoria, before starting Brae in 2013. Birregurra
Birregurra is a town on Gulidjan Country in Victoria, Australia approximately south-west of Melbourne. The town is located within the Colac Otway Shire. At the 2016 census, Birregurra had a population of 828. Birregurra is an Aboriginal word thought to mean ‘kangaroo camp'. In 1839, the Wesleyan missionaries and colonial government established the Buntingdale Mission Station in the area - Victoria's first Aboriginal mission. A Post Office opened in the area on 1 October 1858 and was renamed Mount Gellibrand in 1894, a few days before another office nearby was opened as Birregurra. The railway through the town was opened in 1877, as part of the line to the south west of the state. A branch line to Forrest left the main line here, opened in 1891 and closed in 1957. Dunkeld, Victoria
Dunkeld is a town in Victoria, Australia, at the southern end of the Grampians National Park, in the Shire of Southern Grampians. It is approx 283 km west of Melbourne on the Glenelg Highway. The town's population is holding steady but ageing. At the 2016 census, Dunkeld had a population of 678. The Djab wurrung people lived in this region to the south and east of the Grampians for over 4,000 years prior to the arrival of the Europeans.
