Dalsfjorden (Sunnfjord)
Dalsfjorden is a fjord in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the municipalities of Askvoll, Fjaler, and Sunnfjord. It is one of the two main fjords that comprise the Sunnfjord region of the county. The fjord is about long and it is generally about wide. The Dalsfjorden is a narrow fjord that cuts into roughly eastwards from the village of Vilnes on the island of Atløyna in Askvoll municipality. The outer part of the fjord is also known as the Vilnesfjorden. The mouth of the fjord by Vilnes has a width of approximately , but at the village of Holmedal the fjord narrows quite a bit. The rest of the fjord going east has a width of . The mouth of the river Gaula is located at the innermost part of the fjord. On the south side of the fjord lies the village of Dale, the administrative centre of the municipality of Fjaler. Fjaler
Fjaler is a municipality in the county of Vestland, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Sunnfjord. The administrative centre is the village of Dale. Other places in Fjaler include Espedal, Flekke, Folkestad, Guddal, and Hellevika. Fjaler was the birthplace of famous Norwegian poet Jakob Sande. The UWC Red Cross Nordic at Haugland, one of the eighteen United World Colleges of the world is also located here, as well as the Nordic Art Centre at Dalsåsen. There is a bridge connecting Dale to Eikenes in Askvoll municipality, and buses depart from Dale to Førde, Rysjedalsvika, Hyllestad, and the western part of Fjaler. Dalsfjord Bridge
The Dalsfjord Bridge is a suspension bridge over the Dalsfjorden in Vestland county, Norway. The bridge connects the municipalities of Fjaler and Askvoll on either side of the fjord. The suspension bridge has a main span of and the bridge towers are high. It was opened on 14 December 2013. The bridge was built as part of the Dalsfjord Connection project and is part of Norwegian County Road 609. On the west side, the road enters the Otterstein Tunnel, while on the east side of the bridge the road enters a tunnel arm into a roundabout inside the Nishammart Tunnel. Fjord1 ASA is a Norwegian transport conglomerate, one of the largest in the Norwegian transport sector. Formed in 2001, company headquarters are in Florø, with the headquarters of the ferry division in Molde. It operates a fleet of environmentally friendly vessels in the Norwegian fjords. Formation Nordvestlandske was formed in 2001 by the merger of the county council-owned ferry companies Møre og Romsdal Fylkesbåtar and Fylkesbaatane i Sogn og Fjordane, becoming Fjord1 in December 2002. The fact that the merged company headquarters were located in Sogn og Fjordane made the merger unpopular in Møre og Romsdal county. Atløyna
Atløyna or Atløy is an island in Askvoll Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. In 2001, there were 480 residents on the island. The island lies about west of the mainland coast, just west of the village of Askvoll on the mainland. The island has no road connections to the mainland, but there is a regular ferry route. Most of the inhabitants on the island live right along the coast. The largest population centres on the island are Vilnes on the southwestern coast, Sauesund on the southeastern coast, and Hærland on the northwestern coast. Vilnes Church (''Vilnes kyrkje'') is a medieval wooden church located in the village of Vilnes. It was constructed in 1674 and has a seating capacity of 130. Sognefjorden
The Sognefjord or Sognefjorden (, en, Sogn Fjord), nicknamed the King of the Fjords ( no, Fjordenes konge), is the largest and deepest fjord in Norway. Located in Vestland county in Western Norway, it stretches inland from the ocean to the small village of Skjolden in the municipality of Luster. The fjord gives its name to the surrounding district of Sogn. The name is related to Norwegian word ''súg-'' "to suck", presumably from the surge or suction of the tidal currents at the mouth of the fjord.
