Atløyna
Atløyna or Atløy is an island in Askvoll Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. In 2001, there were 480 residents on the island. The island lies about west of the mainland coast, just west of the village of Askvoll on the mainland. The island has no road connections to the mainland, but there is a regular ferry route. Most of the inhabitants on the island live right along the coast. The largest population centres on the island are Vilnes on the southwestern coast, Sauesund on the southeastern coast, and Hærland on the northwestern coast. Vilnes Church (''Vilnes kyrkje'') is a medieval wooden church located in the village of Vilnes. It was constructed in 1674 and has a seating capacity of 130. The church was built following plans drawn by architects Johan and Claus Lindstrøm. Restoration was carried out during the 1950s. Askvoll Municipality
is a municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Sunnfjord. The administrative centre is the village of Askvoll. Other villages in the municipality include Holmedal, Kvammen, and Stongfjorden. The most important industries in Askvoll today are ''Helle Knivfabrikk'' (a knife factory), ''Bulandet Fiskeindustri'' (fish industry), and ''Sigurd Løkeland Hermetikkfabrikk'' (a producer of crabs). The municipality is the 255th largest by area out of the 356 municipalities in Norway. Askvoll is the 227th most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 2,951. The municipality's population density is and its population has decreased by 2% over the previous 10-year period. Askvoll is the administrative centre of Askvoll Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located on the western coast of the mainland, just north of the mouth of the Dalsfjorden in the Sunnfjord region of the county. The village lies about west of the village of Holmedal and about south of the village of Stongfjorden. The island of Atløyna lies a couple kilometres west of the village of Askvoll. Vilnes Church
Vilnes Church ( no, Vilnes kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Askvoll Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Vilnes on the south side of the island of Atløyna. It is one of several churches for the Askvoll parish which is part of the Sunnfjord prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The brown, wooden church was built in a long church style in 1674 using designs by the local parish priest, Otthe Jonassøn. The church seats about 130 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1330, but the church was not new that year. The original church at Vilnes was likely a wooden stave church. The altarpiece is dated as 1250 AD, so it is very likely the church was built around that time. Vestland
Vestland is a county in Norway established on 1 January 2020. The county is located in Western Norway and it is centred around the city of Bergen, Norway's second largest city. The administrative centre of the county is the city of Bergen, where the executive and political leadership is based, but the County Governor is based in Hermansverk. The county is one of two counties in Norway that have Nynorsk as their official written language form (the others are neutral as to which form people use). The ''Great Norwegian Encyclopedia'' ( no, Store Norske Leksikon, abbreviated ''SNL''), is a Norwegian-language online encyclopedia. The online encyclopedia is among the most-read Norwegian published sites, with more than two million unique visitors per month. Kunnskapsforlaget () is a Norwegian publishing company based in Oslo. Kunnskapsforlaget was established in 1975, as a partnership between H. Aschehoug & Co. (W. Nygaard) and Gyldendal Norsk Forlag. The purpose was to co-operate on publishing encyclopaedias and dictionaries. The first volume of Store norske leksikon (SNL) was published in 1978. A total of four editions was published (the last one in 2004), before the online version was transferred to Institusjonen Fritt Ord og Sparebankstiftelsen DnB in 2011. Kunnskapsforlaget is the largest dictionary publisher in Norway. They publish both printed books, and digital dictionaries that are available through the online service Ordnett (launched in 2004). Their main languages are English and Norwegian, but they also have dictionaries in 21 other languages. In September 2018, Gyldendal Norsk Forlag became the single owner of the company.
