Dakar Arena
The Dakar Arena (nicknamed Palais des sports de Diamniadio) is an indoor arena that is located in Diamniadio, Senegal. Built between 2016 and 2018, it is primarily used for basketball games, and it is the home arena of the Senegal national basketball team and the Senegal women's national basketball team. The arena has a seating capacity of 15,000 people. It is one of Africa's newest basketball arenas. History President Macky Sall promised to build a new basketball arena, after Senegal won the AfroBasket Women 2015. The objective was to replace the Marius Ndiaye Stadium as the home arena for both men and women basketball teams in Senegal. The Dakar Arena was broke down on 9 May 2016, by President Macky Sall, Prime Minister Mahammed Boun Abdallah Dionne and many basketball players. Dakar
Dakar ( ; ; wo, Ndakaaru) (from daqaar ''tamarind''), is the capital and largest city of Senegal. The city of Dakar proper has a population of 1,030,594, whereas the population of the Dakar metropolitan area is estimated at 3.94 million in 2021. The area around Dakar was settled in the 15th century. The Portuguese established a presence on the island of Gorée off the coast of Cap-Vert and used it as a base for the Atlantic slave trade. France took over the island in 1677. 2019 Women's Afrobasket
The 2019 AfroBasket Women was held from 10 to 18 August 2019 in Dakar, Senegal. It was also the first step for the qualification for FIBA Africa for the women's basketball tournament at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. The top six teams were qualified for the African pre-qualifying tournament. Nigeria won their second consecutive and fourth overall title after beating Senegal in the final. Mahammed Boun Abdallah Dionne
Mahammed Boun Abdallah Dionne (born 22 September 1959) is a Senegalese politician who served as the Prime Minister of Senegal from 2014 to 2019. He was the third prime minister appointed by President Macky Sall. Dionne served at the Central Bank of West African States, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (ONUDI), and as the advisor of the president, before his appointment as prime minister. He is a computer engineer by training. Early life Dionne was born on 22 September 1959, in Gossas. When his mother gave birth to him, she took refuge in a locality where her grandmother lived. The 2015 FIBA Africa Championship for Women was the 22nd AfroBasket Women, played under the rules of FIBA, the world governing body for basketball, and FIBA Africa.
