Dachi, Ukraine
Dachi () is an unincorporated settlement in southern Ukraine on the left bank of the Dnipro river. It is located from the city of Kherson, within the territory of Kherson Raion, Kherson Oblast. It is located near the Antonivka Road Bridge. It is a vacation town, where many of the city's wealthier residents own summer homes ( dachas). Russian invasion of Ukraine During the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the village was captured by Russian forces as part of the Southern offensive. On April 23, 2023, it was reported by the Institute for the Study of War and the Associated Press that the village had been liberated by an incursion during the Dnieper campaign on the night of April 20 and 21. The Antonivsky island, on which the village is situated, would be completely submerged following the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam on 6 June 2023. Antonivka Road Bridge
The Antonivka Road Bridge, also known as the Antonivskyi Bridge (, ), was a box girder bridge that crossed the Dnieper river in Kherson, Kherson Oblast, southern Ukraine. Design and construction The bridge had been planned since 1977. It opened on 24 December 1985. It was located in the town of Antonivka, Kherson Raion, Kherson Oblast and connected Kherson to Oleshky and Hola Prystan via Highway M14. The bridge was long and rested on 31 pillars. 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine Invasion The bridge changed hands several times during the Battle of Kherson in February 2022 in an attempt by Russian forces to establish a path from Russian-held Crimea into central Ukraine. Southern Ukraine Campaign
The southern Ukraine campaign is an ongoing theatre of operation in the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine which began on 24 February 2022. From their base in Russian-occupied Crimea, the Russian Armed Forces attacked Kherson Oblast, Mykolaiv Oblast, and Zaporizhzhia Oblast in southern Ukraine, battling the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Elements from the southern Russian offensive joined forces with elements from the eastern Ukraine offensive to jointly surround and bombard the city of Mariupol in Donetsk Oblast, which fell after months of siege. Kherson was captured in March; it was the only Oblast capital captured by Russia until it was liberated on November. 2023 Ukrainian Counteroffensive
In early June 2023, during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Ukraine launched a counteroffensive against Russian forces occupying its territory with a long-term goal of breaching the frontlines. Destruction Of The Kakhovka Dam
The Kakhovka Dam in Ukraine was breached in the early hours of 6 June 2023, causing extensive flooding along the lower Dnieper river, also called the Dnipro, in Kherson Oblast. The dam was under the control of the Russian military, which had seized it in the early days of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
