D.L. MacDonald Yard (ETS)
D.L. MacDonald Yard is the maintenance facility, garage, and operations centre for the Capital and Metro light rail transit lines operated by Edmonton Transit Service, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Located to the northeast in the Kennedale industrial area, at 13310 - 50A Street, the facility opened in December 1983 at a cost of $28.2 million. Expansions to the facility to accommodate additional light rail vehicles were completed as part of the South LRT Extension Project. Portions of the expansion were completed in 2008 with the remainder completed in early 2009. History Don MacDonald was the Superintendent of the Edmonton Transit System for many years. Capital Line
The Edmonton LRT Capital Line is a light rail transit line running from northeast Edmonton to the south. Operated by the Edmonton Transit Service, the line provides access to Downtown Edmonton and the University of Alberta. The Capital Line currently consists of fifteen stations, six of which are underground. Seven stations are shared with the Metro Line. History On April 22, 1978, the line opened between Belvedere and Central stations. At the time (and for another 37 years) the system consisted solely of the single line. Metro Line
The Metro Line is a light rail transit line on the Edmonton LRT system. The line operates from northwest Edmonton to south Edmonton, and was scheduled to have begun operation by spring 2014 but instead opened on September 6, 2015, at a reduced speed and frequency. The line uses of new track, three new stations, and seven stations on the existing Capital Line. In August 2021, service on the Metro Line was modified to end at Health Sciences/Jubilee station, as was originally planned but delayed due to signalling issues which caused trains to run a reduced frequency to the interim terminus at Century Park station to ensure the Capital Line could run at full frequency. Edmonton Light Rail Transit, commonly referred to as the LRT, is a light rail system in Edmonton, Alberta. Part of the Edmonton Transit Service (ETS), the system has 18 stations on two lines and of track. The Gerry Wright Operations and Maintenance Facility (OMF) is the maintenance facility, garage, and operations centre for the light rail transit Valley Line, in the city of Edmonton, Alberta. Located in the Roper industrial area, on the north side of Whitemud Drive, it has housed the light rail vehicles for the Valley Line since 2018. History Gerald "Gerry" H. Wright was an associate professor of Community Development and Public Affairs at the University of Alberta from 1972 to 1992. In this position, he became a major proponent for the development of a light rail transit (LRT) system in Edmonton, and played a key role in bringing such a system to the city.
