The Gerry Wright Operations and Maintenance Facility (OMF) is the maintenance facility, garage, and operations centre for the light rail transit Valley Line, in the city of Edmonton, Alberta. Located in the Roper industrial area, on the north side of Whitemud Drive, it has housed the light rail vehicles for the Valley Line since 2018. History Gerald "Gerry" H. Wright was an associate professor of Community Development and Public Affairs at the University of Alberta from 1972 to 1992. In this position, he became a major proponent for the development of a light rail transit (LRT) system in Edmonton, and played a key role in bringing such a system to the city. Edmonton Light Rail Transit
Edmonton Light Rail Transit, commonly referred to as the LRT, is a light rail system in Edmonton, Alberta. Part of the Edmonton Transit Service (ETS), the system has 18 stations on two lines and of track. As of 2018, it is number seven on the busiest light rail transit systems in North America, with over 113,000 daily weekday riders. Valley Line (Edmonton)
The Valley Line is a future , low-floor urban light rail line in Edmonton, Alberta, currently under construction. It will be part of the Edmonton Light Rail Transit. It will run southeast to west from Mill Woods to Lewis Farms, crossing through downtown. The line will be constructed in phases, with phase 1 being the , 12-station portion between Mill Woods and 102 Street (Downtown) allowing passengers to connect with the Capital Line and Metro Line at Churchill station. Whitemud Drive is a major east–west freeway in southern Edmonton, Alberta, that stretches from 231 Street at the western city limit to Anthony Henday Drive just east of Edmonton in Strathcona County. The North Saskatchewan River valley parks system, also known as the Ribbon of Green or the River Valley Parks, is a continuous collection of urban parks around the North Saskatchewan River valley in the Edmonton Metropolitan Region of Alberta, Canada.
