The Croatian Water Polo Federation (HVS) ( hr, Hrvatski vaterpolski savez) is the governing body of water polo in Croatia. It is based in Zagreb. League system It also organizes the Croatian Cup of Water Polo as well as the Croatian national water polo team and the Croatian national junior water polo team. Water polo first came to Croatia in 1908. The HVS was formed on May 21, 1971 in Split. In 2004 Perica Bukić was elected as president of the federation. Water Polo
Water polo is a competitive sport, competitive team sport played in water between two teams of seven players each. The game consists of four quarters in which the teams attempt to score goals by throwing the water polo ball, ball into the opposing team's goal (sport), goal. The team with the most goals at the end of the game wins the match. Each team is made up of six field players and one Goalkeeper (water polo), goalkeeper. Excluding the goalkeeper, players participate in both offensive and defensive roles. It is typically played in an all-deep swimming pool, pool where players cannot touch the bottom. A game consists mainly of the players swimming to move about the pool, treading water (mainly using the eggbeater kick), passing the ball, and shooting at the goal. Zagreb
Zagreb ( , , , ) is the capital and largest city of Croatia. It is in the northwest of the country, along the Sava river, at the southern slopes of the Medvednica mountain. Croatia National Water Polo Team
The Croatia men's national water polo team represents Croatia in international water polo competitions and is controlled by the Croatian Water Polo Federation. They have won gold medals in the Olympics, World and European Championships, FINA World League and Mediterranean Games, making them one of the most successful men's water polo teams in the world. Overall Croatia won 28 medals at competitions. It was the first Croatian national team to win a gold medal at the Olympics or World Games, the World and European Championships. Croatia played their 800th game since gaining independence on 20th August 2022. and they won their 517th victory. Perica Bukić
Perica Bukić (born 20 February 1966) is a Croatian former professional water polo player and politician. He represented Yugoslavia at the 1984 and 1988 Summer Olympics. Bukić was given the honour to carry the national flag of Croatia at the opening ceremony of the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, becoming the 17th water polo player to be a flag bearer at the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympics. Bukić was educated at the University of Zagreb, from which he received a degree in economics. During his active water polo years, he played for Solaris Šibenik, Mladost Zagreb, and Jadran Split. He later became the sports director of "Mladost" Zagreb. Bukić is a member of the Croatian Democratic Union. In the 2003 Croatian parliamentary election he attained a seat in the Croatian Parliament.
