Corofin GAA (Galway)
Corofin GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Corofin, County Galway, Ireland. The club serves the two parishes of Cummer and Kilmoylan and Belclare. Corofin are the 2019–20 All-Ireland Club Champions, after winning their third-successive All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship final by defeating Kilcoo of Down in January 2020. History The club has had a long association with the GAA dating back as far as its inception. Corofin born and long time local parish priest, Dr Patrick Duggan, who was then Bishop of Clonfert was Michael Cusack's first choice to be the clerical patron of the new association in 1884. 2016 Galway Senior Football Championship
The 2016 Galway Senior Football Championship is the 121st edition of the Galway GAA's premier club Gaelic football tournament for senior graded teams in County Galway, Ireland. The tournament consists of 21 teams (N.U.I.G. only enter at the Preliminary Quarter-Final Stage), with the winner going on to represent Galway in the Connacht Senior Club Football Championship. The championship has a back-door format for the first two rounds before proceeding to a knock-out format. Generally, any team to lose two matches will be knocked out of the championship. All-Ireland champions Corofin were the defending champions after they defeated Mountbellew/Moylough in the previous years final, and they claimed a 3-in-a-row of titles when defeating Salthill/Knocknacarra 0-16 to 0-11 in the final at Pearse Stadium on 23 October. Gary Sice
Gary Sice (born 8 November 1984) is a Gaelic footballer who plays for his local club, Corofin, and, formerly, at senior level for the Galway county team from 2007 until 2017. Sice was a key member of the St Jarlath's College team that won the Hogan Cup in 2002 beating St Michael's College, Enniskillen on a scoreline of 3-13 to 0-6 along with Michael Meehan, Niall Coleman, Darren Mullahy, Alan Burke whom he also lined out with for Galway in later years and James Kavanagh, who also lined out for both Kildare and Galway. The then Galway manager Kevin Walsh confirmed Sice's retirement from the inter-county scene on 8 January 2018, after a postponed FBD Insurance League game against Mayo due to have taken place at MacHale Park. The Sigerson Cup is the trophy for the premier Gaelic football championship among Higher Education institutions (Universities, Colleges and Institutes of Technology) in Ireland. It traditionally begins in mid January and ends in late February. The Sigerson Cup competition is administered by Comhairle Ard Oideachais Cumann Lúthchleas Gael (CLG), the GAA's Higher Education Council. Martin McNamara (Gaelic Footballer)
Martin McNamara (born 11 November 1966) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer from Corofin, County Galway, Ireland. McNamara was the reliable servant in goal for the Galway county team for several years. It was the time when a Galway match wouldn't be a Galway match without a McNamara save of blinding quality. Unfortunately it was also the time of a barren spell for the Galway team. That barren spell seemed to turn around with a first Connacht title in 8 years in 1995 and a narrow semi-final defeat to Tyrone but Mayo seemed to halt any revival that Galway were planning when they reached the next two All-Ireland finals, both at Galway's expense in Connacht. Kieran Fitzgerald (born 1 January 1981) is an Irish Gaelic footballer. He played at senior level for the Galway county team between 2000 and 2011. He plays his club football with Corofin. Daithí Burke
Daithí Burke (born 16 November 1992) is an Irish hurler and Gaelic footballer who plays at senior level for the Galway county hurling team and for his clubs Turloughmore and Corofin. Burke made his debut for Galway against Laois, and was part of the team that reached the 2015 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Final after defeating Tipperary in the semi-final. Ian Burke
Ian Burke is a Gaelic footballer from Corofin, County Galway, who played at senior level for the Galway county team. In November 2018, Burke won an All-Star award. It was Galway's first football All-Star since 2003. Career Burke plays his club Gaelic football for Corofin. He based his style of play upon his small height, utilising quick passes and fast movement. He played in their unsuccessful Galway Senior Football Championship campaign in 2012 but became an ever present member of the Corofin team that went on to win seven Galway SFCs in a row.
