2016 Galway Senior Football Championship
The 2016 Galway Senior Football Championship is the 121st edition of the Galway GAA's premier club Gaelic football tournament for senior graded teams in County Galway, Ireland. The tournament consists of 21 teams (N.U.I.G. only enter at the Preliminary Quarter-Final Stage), with the winner going on to represent Galway in the Connacht Senior Club Football Championship. The championship has a back-door format for the first two rounds before proceeding to a knock-out format. Generally, any team to lose two matches will be knocked out of the championship. All-Ireland champions Corofin GAC, Corofin were the defending champions after they defeated Mountbellew/Moylough in the previous years final, and they claimed a 3-in-a-row of titles when defeating Salthill/Knocknacarra 0-16 to 0-11 in the final at Pearse Stadium on 23 October. The Galway Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association competition between the top Gaelic football clubs in Galway. The winners of the Galway Championship qualify to represent their county in the Connacht Senior Club Football Championship, the winners of which go on to the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship. The winning team is presented with the Frank Fox Cup. Cortoon Shamrocks (Irish: ) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in County Galway, Ireland. The club is a member of the Galway GAA. Galway league and championships and they compete at all levels of Galway football. Annaghdown GAA
Annaghdown GAC is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in County Galway, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The club is a member of the Galway GAA and was founded in 1887. Underage teams in both hurling and football play in the Galway league and championships. Annaghdown are a dual club and cater for Gaelic football, hurling and Ladies football. Kilconly GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Kilconly, County Galway, Ireland. The club is a member of the Galway GAA, and is primarily focused on Gaelic football. Underage teams, up to U-18s, play in the Galway league and championships. The club competes at other levels within Galway's football competitions as well. Kilconly gained senior status for the first time in its history by becoming Galway Intermediate champions 2011. Killererin ( ga, Cill Fhir Iarainn) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the Tuam area in County Galway, Ireland. The club is a member of the Galway GAA. A Gaelic football club, Killererin fields underage teams up to U-16s play in the Galway league and championships. History Founded in 1889, the club was originally named Killererin John Dillon's. Competing for much of the 20th century in the junior grade, the club won its first county junior championship title in 1968.
