Charis ( grc-gre, Χάρις) is a given name derived from a Greek word meaning "grace, kindness, and life." In Greek mythology, a Charis is one of the Charites ( el, Χάριτες) or "Graces", goddesses of charm, beauty, nature, human creativity and fertility; and in Homer's ''Iliad'', Charis is the wife of Hephaestus. Charis was also known as Cale ("Beauty") or Aglaea ("Splendor"). Charis is also the Spartan name of a Grace. In Greek mythology, the Charites ( ), singular ''Charis'', or Graces, were three or more goddesses of charm, beauty, nature, human creativity, goodwill, and fertility. Hesiod names three – Aglaea ("Shining"), Euphrosyne ("Joy"), and Thalia ("Blooming")Hesiod, ''Theogony''907 ff – and names Aglaea as the youngest and the wife of Hephaestus. ''Nomocharis'' is a genus of flowering plants in the family Liliaceae. It consists of about 7 species native to montane regions of western China, Myanmar, and northern India. ''Eucharis'' is a genus of about 15–20 species of neotropical plants in the Amaryllis family, native to Central America and South America, from Guatemala south to Bolivia. Some species have become naturalized in Mexico, the West Indies, and scattered tropical islands. The English name Amazon lily is sometimes used for all species in the genus (as well as other genera), but is particularly used for ''Eucharis amazonica'' and ''Eucharis'' × ''grandiflora'', which are often confused. Description ''Eucharis'' is a perennial with a bulb in diameter. The broad-stalked leaves are long and broad. The large showy white flowers are borne in an umbel of three to ten on an erect scape long. ''Eleocharis'' is a virtually cosmopolitan genus of 250 or more species of flowering plants in the sedge family, Cyperaceae. The name is derived from the Greek words ἕλειος (''heleios''), meaning "marsh dweller," and χάρις (''charis''), meaning "grace." Members of the genus are known commonly as spikerushes or spikesedges. The genus has a geographically cosmopolitan distribution, with centers of diversity in the Amazon Rainforest and adjacent eastern slopes of the South American Andes, northern Australia, eastern North America, California, Southern Africa, and subtropical Asia. The Botanical Register
''The Botanical Register'', subsequently known as ''Edwards's Botanical Register'', was an illustrated horticultural magazine that ran from 1815 to 1847. It was started by the botanical illustrator Sydenham Edwards, who had previously illustrated ''The Botanical Magazine'', but left after a dispute with the editors. Edwards edited five volumes of ''The Botanical Register'' in five years, before his death in 1819. During this period, the text was provided by John Bellenden Ker Gawler, and Edwards himself provided paintings, which were engraved and hand-coloured by others.
