Cervello
Cervello ("Brain") is a band from Italy. History Cervello was formed by musicians from Naples. Corrado Rustici, then 17 years old, was the younger brother of Danilo Rustici, who was the guitarist of another popular rock band from Naples of these years, the Osanna. In 1973 the band released their sole album ''Melos'', a brilliant Italian symphonic progressive rock production. The band show good mastery of their instruments, dazzling in sometimes over-complicated passages. Flutes and saxophones are often used to replace the keyboards and mellotron of many progressive works from this era. In spite of critical praise the band broke up in 1974. Corrado Rustici, after a brief stint with the Osanna, and a lengthy tenure with Nova, started a successful career as a solo musician and producer. Corrado Rustici
Corrado Rustici (born 1957) is an Italian musician, songwriter and producer. Recording career Rustici was a founder member of the Naples-based progressive rock group Cervello. The band recorded the album '' Melos'' in 1973, with Rustici on guitar and vocals. In 1975, he joined with members of Osanna, including his brother Danilo, to form the group Nova. In 1976, they recorded the album ''Blink''. For the next two albums ''Vimana'' (1976) and ''Wings of Love'' (1977), they relocated to London and worked with prominent members of the progressive rock and jazz fusion scenes, including Narada Michael Walden and Phil Collins. Nova's final album, ''Sun City'' (1978) was recorded in New York. After the disbandment of Nova, Rustici moved to Los Angeles and started a successful career as a producer and musician collaborating with many artists both in the United States and Italy. Nova (Italian Band)
Nova was an Italian progressive rock band that was formed in 1975 from members of the bands Osanna and Cervello. Based in London for most of their career, they released four albums that were influenced by the 1970s jazz fusion styles of bands such as Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report, and Return to Forever. History The band was formed when the founder members of Osanna, Elio D'Anna (saxophone and flute) and Danilo Rustici (guitar) were joined by Danilos’ 17-year-old brother, Corrado Rustici (guitar and vocals) from Cervello. Osanna are an Italian progressive rock band. Origin The group originated in the Vomero neighborhood of Naples with the union of Lino Vairetti (voice), Danilo Rustici (guitar), Massimo Guarino (drums), Lello Brandi (bass), from the first line-up of the band Città Frontale, and Elio D'Anna (flute and sax), former member of the Showmen. Osanna were among the first bands in the world to present themselves theatrically in their shows, featuring costumes and made-up faces. Artistic output After the debut album '' L'uomo'', they released the soundtrack for the film ''Milano Calibro 9''. In 1972 they toured in Italy alongside Genesis. Gianluigi Di Franco
Gianluigi Di Franco (5 January 1953, in Capri – 19 March 2005, in Naples) was an Italian singer. In the early 1970s he joined the brothers Corrado and Danilo Rustici and formed the progressive rock band Cervello. The group disbanded after one album and Di Franco spent the 1970s working in a psychiatric hospital in Naples as a musicotherapist In the early 1980s Di Franco resumed his music career. He collaborated with percussionist Tony Esposito, singing lead vocals on "Kalimba de luna" (1984) and "As Tu As" (1985). He also worked with Tullio De Piscopo and Mory Kanté on the single "Radio Africa" (1986). Melos (album)
''Melos'' is a progressive rock album released in 1973 by the Italian band Cervello. The lyrics focus around an interpretation of the singing from a Greek mythology point of view. The music is a successful fusion of Mediterranean sounds with typical complex progressive rock ones, as well as with experimental parts. Flutes are dominant in much of the songs, as four members of the band played that instrument. Il Rovescio Della Medaglia
Il Rovescio della Medaglia, or RDM, were an Italian hard rock and symphonic rock band. They are most famous for their symphonic rock piece '' Contaminazione'', released in 1973. It contained four pieces from Bach's ''Well-tempered Clavier'' seamlessly integrated with RDM's own music, which often was inspired by rock or hard rock. In 1974 the record was released in an English version, ''Contamination'', with the group's name simplified to RDM, although still written in full on the back of the LP jacket. The band was produced by Luis Enríquez Bacalov. The band split up in 1977, but reformed in 1993. Premiata Forneria Marconi (PFM) (translation: ''Award-winning Marconi Bakery'') is an Italian progressive rock band founded in 1970 which continues to the present day. They were the first Italian group to have success internationally. The group recorded five albums with English lyrics between 1973 and 1977. During this period they entered both the British and American charts. They also had several successful European and American tours, playing at the popular Reading Festival in England and on a very popular national television program in the United States. PFM introduced new sounds, such as the synthesizer, to the Italian musical world. Le Orme (Italian: "The Footprints") is an Italian progressive rock band formed in 1966 in Marghera, a ''frazione'' of Venice. The band was one of the major groups of the Italian progressive rock scene in the 1970s. They are one of few Italian rock bands to have success outside their own country, having played concerts across North America and Europe, and releasing an album in English at the height of their success. Banco del Mutuo Soccorso (English: ''Bank of Mutual Relief'') is an Italian rock band. A popular progressive rock band in the 1970s, they continued making music in the 1980s and 1990s. Recently, they were still active, playing live in 2001 and 2008 at NEARfest. Their charismatic frontman, Francesco Di Giacomo, died in 2014. History Inspired by progressive rock acts from England, in particular Gentle Giant, Jethro Tull and Emerson, Lake & Palmer, keyboardists Vittorio Nocenzi and his brother Gianni founded Banco del Mutuo Soccorso in Rome, Italy. Locanda delle Fate (The Fairy Inn) is an Italian progressive rock band from the end of the Italian progressive rock movement.
